Drumming noise on cornering
Hi - Notice a drumming, or strange noise when cornering on roundabouts, It's a rotational sound that kind of throbs and increases when turning into a heavier lock on the wheel.
Is this likely a CV joint or something more sinister? It tends to make the noise on turning left or right, but more pronounced on right lock. Regards Larry My car is 2005 MGZT-T 2 Litre Diesel |
More like a tyre problem. CV joints tend to click.--Have a look at the tyre walls to see if there is any distortion.
Does the noise increase with speed ?? |
Hi Colvert, Thanks for the thought - I'll double check them.
I'm hoping not, as they are all 4 relatively new tyres. Kormoron, as specified by Michelin. Fitted about 9 months ago and probably done about 5000 miles on them so far. Regards Larry |
If it is more pronounced on right lock then could be a wheel bearing on the left hand side of the car on the way out.
Always worth swapping the spare wheel round in turn first to see if it is a problem tyre - costs nothing and doesn't take long to do. |
Mike - I'll do the swap tomorrow, but I think you might be right on the wheel bearing.
Regards Larry |
Ok - Turns out it is the front right wheel bearing that is faulty. Had both sides up on jacks at the garage and the technician confirmed that there is s definite grinding noise, other than mild brake pad contact, on the right hand side, not the left.
So ordered a replacement. Regards Larry |
