Two questions -


How do we solve leaking hoses now that none of the suppliers list them for the KV6 engine?


Is there an overhaul kit available to fix a leaking pump?


I have this continual leak problem that so far no one has given any positive advice. the sequence of event was -

Leaking pump - I changed it.
Fluid leaking from the resevoir vent during a run - now piped to a catch tank but this remains empty.
Fluid now leaking from a joint (flexible to fixed) in the pipe from the pump.


I'm at my wits end. Is the pump generating too much pressure and can it be reduced? Any other ideas?
I must fix this, costing fortune in fluid and making a mess of the drive.

I would ask one of the traders for a pipe, Mickyboy sorted me out very promptly and very reasonably too!

Mine catastrophically exploded on start up when leaving work one evening. I do not remember any of the non PAS cars I have driven being so heavy on the move (Renault 5 being the worst!).

My ZT is a diesel so the pipework will probably be slightly different I am sure, but I would suggest your issue could be similar. The return pipe from the cooler to the rack passed by the A/C compressor, and rubbed through. So check there or at least check below any pipes for dampness. The pipes are easy to replace, but quite fiddly. Once replaced, I tied back the pipe to the subframe away from the compressor using a section of the old rubber pipe to insulate it from vibration.

I would suspect you could have a hose made.

There are many companies that can make hoses, if the ends are a special design these can be removed with some care and crimped into the new hose.

A power steering system generates a lot of pressure, usually over 1000psi so the hoses need to be in good condition.

Landrover have a gasket kit that fits the kv6 power steering pump .
Cant remember the part number but i bought one as the power steering unit in my kv6 had a leak, was the gasket that seals the two halves of the unit together.

THanks for your advise, guys. I'd considered a hose from one of our breaker members and also getting a new hose made.


For now I plan to 'borrow' both the pump and delivery hose from the 50k mile car currently sitting unused waiting for me to change the rusty subframes.


Previous advice suggested the leak from the resevoir vent was due to air being sucked in at an O-ring joint, others suggested the pump was the cause. I'll see if this issue recurs after changing pump and hose.

Looks like the pump fitted to the Discovery 2, but Rimmers no longer list a kit. Mine is leaking between the two halves, so I'll just make a new gasket and perhaps use Welseal to make sure.

Am I right in thinking there is NOT any valve that releases to prevent over-pressuring? I've just had to get a new hose made as the old one (NLS from Rimmer) was leaking where the pipe was crimped on to the steel pipe.
