Brake fluid!

Do people really change brake fluid every two years as recommended?

Ross R75 25th January 2019 10:30

Yes. Takes half an hour to do it properly. After 2 years, it's a totally different colour than it was when new. Water absorption and heat cycling.

trikey 25th January 2019 11:06

Nope! I do it when replacing a brake pipe or a caliper.

Must admit I never have, not unless like trikey, i have to change something

Half an hour? It would take me longer than that to remove the wheels.

Certainly not:D

I never have , however, after changing calipers and discs I am shocked at how positive the pedal feels, brakes feel sharp and more responsive, but that's likely down to better discs and pads as well as the fluid. But the softness of the pedal during hard braking has gone.

After doing it in about 30 mins, AFTER the wheels were.off lol, I intend to do it more regularly now.

sent from here

I do it every 3 years on each of our cars. It does come out a soemwhat different colour.

Ditto coolant every 4-5 years.

do you need T4 to bleed the brakes properly? Something to do with opening a valve, ABS ?

Only change brake fluid when doing a slave change
