Leaking Boot

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

I've reached new highs of frustration with my car my boot is after replacing the rear light seals and fixing a leak from boot seal itself my boot is still leaking water.

I could not find anyone else having reported this issue the leak isn't coming from any of the usual places (tailing seals, boot seal, chrome trim, pressure relief flaps). But rather from seam that outer part of the rear wing meets the inner part of the boot.

In my picture bellow I have two arrows showing where the water is coming from it appears to be running along the seam to the tail end of wing dripping down to the bulb holder of the rear taillight.

I locked myself in the boot and I had a friend basting water with the pressure washer but I could pin point the leak moisture just appeared and it would start dripping at the end. Feeling with my hand towards the rear screen it was dry also the bolt holes of boot hinge also seemed dry.

There aren't any visible cracks or anything on seams on the outside.

Any ideas where the water maybe coming from or has anyone else experienced this ?

Cheers,
Thanos

Well, if the rear light seals are ok, and the boot seal is ok then it's time for Captain Tolley's mefinks. I ran it down from half way up the rear window seal and along the bottom rubber. Use it on the seams too, either side of the boot near the top.

could it be a seam under the roof rail trim that is leaking and water running down between the two skins?

I will give a 2nd vote for Captain Tolley. Had water leak along bottom of rear window, gave the window clips 4/5 good washes of wd40,surprised how much muck came out of there. then used Captain Tolley. :}

Me too

I have water dripping from just under the boot hinge bolts too and suspect either the bolts or the seam
Would appreciate an update on your progress or anyone else perhaps fixed similar
Must be a known problem surely?

I had exactly the same on my Connie and after weeks dismantling and resealing everything I could think of it still leaked then I applied Captain Tolleys to the seams that go all the way down the boot edges...problem solved.

So providing you've checked that the bolts are tight then Capt Tolleys is the next logical course of action.

It will be the seams, clean them thoroughly using a small brush and some degreaser, let them dry then apply lots of coats of captain tolleys, ensure each coat is dry before applying the next one.

It took me months to get the Dorchester’s boot dry, the water ingress from one last seam proved difficult to spot, it would only leak when the rain blew in a certain direction!!
