Just did last year was £141 this year it's £363 they told me its classed as a modern car and not a classic

ricardo65 20th October 2018 12:04

I'm not 100% certain but I think the mgs are class as a classic and the 75 are not I've sure I've read it somewhere but don't quote me lol

Looking at this thread I thought I'd check mine out looked at Performance Direct stated mg specialist ect well after inputting all my details it came back at a staggering £1522.44 could not believe it. Mine is not needed till next year but thought I'd look anyway.

Now had 2 calls from this company one after another asking f I was happy with quote told them Not at those prices I'm not.

Always defeats my logic as well this sort of stuff.

Having seen on here that Adrian Flux is a go to for Rover 75 insurance for many I rang them up to be quoted £650 fully comp for my CDT.

When I finished laughing down the phone they said that they could transfer me over to another firm who they thought could provide a better deal. Transferred over to two other phone lines and giving all my details again and again, the clowns that Adrian Flux passed me over to quoted £745.

I didn't even bother laughing down the line this time and just said goodbye before hanging up having had another half hour of my life wasted.

Contacting my current insurer, LV who were in the process of sending out my yearly reminder quote I asked for a quote for an upgrade to my usual social and domestic fully comp policy to cover for business use as well...braced myself for the massive increase that changing to a business insurance policy would surely entail only to find that my ( very quickly accepted ) quote was £343.

Thank you very much LV and goodbye for good Adrian Flux.

I appreciate that different firms of course charge different rates but will never understand how there is a £300 difference on a £343 policy and as for the £1200 and £1300 premiums from other companies what is that all about?

I spoke to Peter Best before deciding about my brothers. 75s and ZTs are classics but only if you can meet certain criteria. You need a daily car, club member and where you store it counts. So its done on indevidual basis.

You are correct Rich, for some reason a few insurance companies see the MG name as a classic car but not the 75!

My wife's insurance company will insure my ZT-T in January as a classic - will be 15 years old then, but my 75 tourer isn't eligible until it's 20 years old (and that's 15 years old already?!).
