Rover 75 2l V6 not starting after petrol tank fill up
 

Hello, can anybody please assist me with this issue. I filled the petrol tank on 25th September and the car won't start since. I had to be recovered from the garage to home as it would not start.
I have got fuel going to the engine, I have a spark, the car is turning over but will not start. I have had the battery off to recharge & when I reconnected it I left it for 2 days before I attempted to restart it. No joy.
Has anyone got access to a mobile T4, so that can find out what the problem is, please?

Do you have the orange clip fitted to your fuel filter?

Did you manage to check yesterday that your fuel filter is tight or an orange clip is fitted? Even though you say that you have a fuel supply to the engine, low pressure will be the result of a loose filter canister.

David has given two further possibilities. When you have the rear seat cushion raised to check the filter, ask an assistant to crank the engine whilst you listen for the pump running continuously on the driver's side. If it only gives a burst upon "ignition on" but doesn't buzz during cranking then suspect a crankshaft sensor circuit problem.

The camshaft position sensor can also prevent starting. I experienced this myself recently when I returned to the car at a supermarket. Wiggling the wires to the connector got me going and a subsequent check at home with a slight tightening of the terminals has prevented a recurrence. It's the first time this has happened to me in seventeen years of ownership so don't rule it out!

A big thank you for the contact and support, I have not been able to look at the 75 fuel problem as it is dark when I get home. I am going to have a look at all the suggestions at the weekend.

Hello, I have removed the pump & checked that it is pumping fuel whilst turning over and all is good. I have checked the fuel filter on the passenger side and there is no orange clip fitted. It could be the crank sensor or the cam sensor, I just don't know. I am hoping to get a T4 check on it to enlighten me what the problem is.

It won't be the crankshaft position sensor if the fuel pump runs during cranking, which you say it does.

You may have low fuel pressure due to the filter canister loosening. To find out, grasp both parts and attempt to tighten it. Do not take it apart!

You may have a poor connection to the camshaft position sensor. Try re-seating the plug. If the sensor is faulty, members report that it comes back to life (temporarily) if cooled in the fridge.

Those are two checks that you can do yourself.
