Aircon diagnosis

So the aircon guy was an hour late. He put a sniffer on it and it alarms behind the radiator so he says it needs a condensor. I messaged Jules on the off chance but his thread says no stock. The aircon dude wants around £150- £160 to fit one. Not counting the part. He told me to get my own. Does this sound right?

May have to suffer the heat this year old school lol!

I would say you need proof that the condenser is at fault as "my" guy has aid the same but I could see no evidence.

I have found this for a replacement rad https://www.autoairconparts.co.uk/ca...t-16-1296.html but done no homework on the firm.

To be honest I am a bit annoyed as he wouldnt take the bumper off. He was late by an hour an wanted to rush to his next booking. From his reviews not what I expected.

From experience condensers are usually the fault on most cars, I work at BMW and they eat condensers, stones just fly into them, I used to have a Civic which went through 2 in a year. If the gas leak detector is detecting a leak from the condenser then it is most likely that, or a bad o ring seal. Any black oily staining on the fins is most likely PAG oil from A/C system.

Hi Dawn if your at the Nano we can have a look the condensers are known to turn to dust though! As for fitting if you can wait you can get it done at the Nano at the usual rate :}:} I did one earlier this year for someone.

Out of interest what else did he do to check?

Here's a famous foto of a typical ten year old 75/ZT condenser. You can be almost sure it will look like this if you touch the fins. I'd believe the aircon man.

He pulled up and attached a gas bottle thing with gauges. He said there was still a little gas in the system. He got out the sniffer and pointed it at two pipes. They read zero. He pointed it at the grille and zero. Then he put ut behind the radiator and it went off. He checked to see if the compressor and fan worked then said it needed a condensor. Its not that I dont believe him. I guess I was miffed he was late without letting me know and then said it was too llate to remove the bumper he was going to his next call.

As there is still some gas in there I take it we cant do it at a Nano?

Strictly speaking they should be vacuumed out, but what happens when a stone hits it , it's not for me to say but if there very little gas in it I don't think it'll stop the world going round if it went to atmosphere. :getmecoat:

I am amazed there is any as it blows red hot! If the guy is right its leaking out all the time at the moment? I just looked and Jules hasn't been on in 6 days. Looks like Rimmers are :£114 for genuine or I read it wrong?
