Rear spring question
 

Hi everyone,
As am changing my Rear arms I thought I might as well change my rear springs. My cars sits a bit low at the front, The ride height at the front is 385mm which from what I gather it is MG spec and the rear is sitting at 405mm which is the Rover spec what sprigs would I need to bring the back down as well ?

I've read of these differences before and wondered where the discrepencey is in this? The Handbook says the 75 and ZT overall heights differ by 7mm. It's the only difference quoted. Since the basic body shells are identical, how can they have a 20mm difference in 'ride height'? I've never fathomed it out. (??)

EDIT: the body should stand horizontal at the sills.

I fitted ZT springs to the rear of my 75 a couple of weeks ago. Still got the front to do.
Got these springs which I thought was a fair price:

Just wondering if you think that the body should be horizontal at the sills, based on the image supplied, or is it referenced somewhere?

Dimension “G” refers to clearance height at axles, so not really at front and rear of sills.

Perhaps the image is just “for information only”, but not representative of actual specification height.🤔

Although It would certainly make sense, I’ve rarely seen a 75 that is horizontal at the sills.
For some reason, saloons always look lower at the front, whereas tourers can often look low at the back, due to sagging.🤔

Possibly because, at this stage, most will have had replacement springs, that are not factory spec / oem quality.😞

So. Bottom line, are Rover 75 and MGZT rear springs interchangeable if done in pairs?

Only if done as a whole car, or the front to back will be totally wrong.
Also you'll ruin the characteristics of the car either way - you'll make a 75 rather hard-riding, and a ZT far too soft.

Both types of springs are ready available from us, Rimmers and elsewhere - there's no reason to move to others. :)

shocker length varies between the zt and contempory models and the pre contempory 75 saloons. so springs must do as well in length. dont know about tourers but i had this problem from ecp when they gave me shockers that were short even though they were for the 75.turns out the contempory shocks and springs are same as zt. i eventually sorted it by buying rear shock from best of british. fitted perfect.... i made a post about it some time ago. ;)

Ah yes, this is a fun one to deal with too. The shocks are shorter but they're not quite as hard as the ZT item in terms of damping (just to make it more difficult!)
