Sarah Everard vigil

Another show of disgusting behaviour by the met police...
People simply showing respect and condolences to a girl who lost her life to a copper....
The same copper paid to protect her...
All was peaceful till the met turned up and threw people to the floor Inc woman and arresting them....
Are they being serious?
Even pretty 'useless' Patel told them to go easy on them and not to incite unrest...take it they didn't get that memo...
My thoughts go out to her friends and family at this awfull time.

I have not hard much news, did any political party or MP come out and say let it go ahead before it went ahead?

Also on the BBC web site, The official vigil, which was being organised by Reclaim These Streets, had been called off earlier in the day due to police warnings over coronavirus restrictions

was peaceful and perhaps illegal?

Oh get off having a pop about the possible killer being a police office and paid to protect her. You are one rule for one and another.
Lets not forget who did the investigating and arresting, the very people you like to slag off. I suspect the arresting and investigating officers are not happy for the investigation to have led them to one of their own.

It's a thankless task policing, always stuck in the middle trying to uphold the law and getting stick for doing it. People are quick to judge and condem, you want to try putting the uniform on.

No amount of money could persuade me to put that on...they've lost my respect a while ago,and many other people feel the same way too.
Many years ago they were respected ( including myself) but over the lasts few years with the bully boy tactics and mass corruption flowing through them, the police are in bother..and they know it.

All sad but a Judge said no, the Police said no, current C19 situation says no. Even the organiser said no don't attend! So don't do it, but it still happens. Thankless task to have to sort things out.

In 1981 when I was serving as a Prison Officer at HMP Bristol I attended the post riot trials at Bristol Crown Court. I shall never forget the testimony of a woman Police Officer, she led across the body of a stabbed colleague to afford him some protection whilst a rioter proceeded to smash her face in with a brick, and the scars where still there for all to see. Amazing courage, in my opinion Never was so much owed by so many to so few.

Ok so it was an illegal gathering, but all was peaceful and they were wearing face masks. But so was the gathering of hundreds of Glasgow Rangers fans celebrating the victory, no police presence no arrests , alcohol being consumed , no masks no social distancing.
It repeats the phrase as quoted by Ian “ one law for one and another for everyone else”.
Why was that allowed but the support for a murdered woman’s family is not?

Your info is a bit off Rich, Police did attend the Rangers fan's gathering at both Ibrox and George Square, 28 arrests were made and numerous fines issued.

There were 500 on duty in Glasgow and 250 in reserve on the Sunday. There were arrests and fines given out.

The thinking was that if they had tried to break them up serious violence would have happened ( if you know the reputation of sevco fans !) and secondly many would have returned indoors to have impromptu celebration parties which again would have been illegal and no doubt the Police would have received numerous calls from nearby residents to come and break them up. They thought it best to control them outside ( especially as covid spreads more inside).......rightly or wrongly.

The problem in Glasgow was that the Police didn't stamp down on it the previous week at Livingston and the day before at Ibrox. However as we saw at the build up to the vigil, they were told it was illegal and not to do it but some still went ahead.

The club have to be at fault for not being more forceful with their statements prior to confirmation of the title plus the action of the players and management was poor which encouraged the response.

Always going to happen to some extent as we saw in Liverpool, Leeds and numerous smaller celebrations last year. The authorities on all sides needed to be more aware from earlier on.

Big question and test will be..... will they gather again. Time will tell.

By the way, Glasgow Rangers died in 2012 ......they are now just The Rangers FC :getmecoat:
