Total loss

Well a very sad day for me today I have just lost my duotone tourer. I put four new tyres on her today had the tracking done, gave her a service ready to leave for Glen Nevis at 4 am tomorrow, she repaid me by going up in flames. She is a total loss I wonder if the insurance company will insult me with their settlement. The fire seems to have started under the dash on the drivers side.

That's a crying shame mate, so sorry. Light switch module the usual culprit, no good to you now though.

FLYING BANANA 14th August 2020 18:47

Sorry to hear the news but at least you are safe.

planenut 14th August 2020 18:49

That is such a shame.

It does happen - so have a fire extinguisher to hand in the cab if possible and swop the self tapping screws of the fascia for scrivets so you can pull the fascia off and douse the LSM with the extinguisher.

Really truly sorry to hear this.

I'm shocked to hear that there is a potential fire issue though.

Was you driving the car at the time? Or was it parked and just started?
I hope everyone is ok?

Oh gosh must be so frightening to see too. I always carry a fire extinguisher but what real effect it would have on a car ablaze I'm not sure.

So long as no one was hurt a car can be replaced.

Horrors. I'm also shocked to hear this. Very sorry for your loss Eddie.

Is there any way to spot a failing LSM? Can they fail while the car is stationery and the ignition switched off, or do they only fail when the ignition is on? Bit worrying. If anyone has more information that would be very welcome.

Yorkshire GOC 14th August 2020 21:29

Unusual in dry weather - normally when water gets into the LSM and it shorts.
