CDTi Head Gasket
Hi, Just wondering if anyone has done a head gasket on a diesel 75 and if there is any advice on the best way to proceed with this task.
Many thanks Ed |
Given the work involved, I'd be more inclined to fit another engine there's plenty around and needn't cost too much either, nobody really wants them.
How come it needs a head gasket? Russ |
The engine suddenly dumped all the coolant into the sump. I thought it might be the oil cooler, while taking the oil cooler off I noticed a build up of crystals from the antifreeze between the head and the block. I am going to try and clean out the oil cooler then blank off the water outlet put some water in the oil side and try to do a pressure test to see if the cooler is at fault if the water starts to be blown out then I will put a new oil cooler on and hope all is ok after a good flush through.

Gonna be interesting

I had this issue last year, replaced oil cooler, egr cooler(on autos only)and then head gasket(check number of small holes in exposed part of gasket before ordering new one)because of location I had to reuse the head bolts.also you will need to have the camshaft alignment tool when positioning timing chain sprockets.be careful when refitting injectors-fit the clamps correctly as I put them upside down at first.
All this was to no avail,as coolant was still ending up in sump,so I resorted to putting a can of 'block seal ' in.hasnt been a problem since. I thought this was due to a water leak problem spanning the life of the car until my ownership,I had paperwork to vouch for this. And therefore internal corrosion had set in. Anyway over a year now and all is ok,touch wood. By the way I used a couple of gallons of cheap oil and filters for the first hundred miles or so and replaced crank breather filters.and once oil filler cap didn't have the emulsified gunk anymore, everything was back to normal. Good luck,Ken . |
I had the same or similar, Water in the sump. I tried a replacement oil cooler still the same. Also, there was NO build-up of pressure in the cooling system.
To save time and a lot of hassle I swapped the engine over problem solved..;) |
