CD80 CD Radio

Anyone know if a CD80 unit is compatible with the steering wheel controls?
Had a CD413X, which was in car from new, and started getting intermittent loss of function from controls.
The CD413X died so fitted a CD80 but with complete loss of function from steering wheel.
Just tried another set of switches and still no function :duh:

Rotary coupling at fault or, CD80 not compatible with steering wheel buttons?

Many thanks.

Mine too. It's now in my 45 and it works with those as well.

I’ll try another squib ring, see if that sorts it out.

Just thinking about this :o
The horn buttons still work even though the radio controls don’t.
Could this be the squib ring, rotary coupling or whatever it’s called?
Or, could it be wiring between steering wheel and the player?

If you’ve tried new switches I’d be inclined to try another radio that you know works or fit the radio into something else and retry. There will be a way of testing the switch to the plug as I believe it’s just a resistance change

Cheers Mark.
I’ll dig out the original CD413X and try it. It was the CD player that stopped working so, can try it with the radio.
It was an intermittent fault for a good few months but, that became a permanent fault when I fitted the CD80.
Am I right in thinking it won’t be the squib ring if the horn buttons work fine?

All the wiring through the rotary coupler is via individual pins so could still be an issue although it’s quite rare for them to fail. If you fit the old radio and check the volume operation it’s a nice quick test. At least you don’t have the remote eye on the earlier MG’s with the Kenwood systems.
