Still squealing!

Hi,

Have changed the belts on my ‘53 1.8t tourer and it’s still squealing under heavy load. The belts that came off looked okay, and not too warm.

So my question, What’s still causing the squealing. alternator bearing, it’s charging fine at 14.5v. Or is it an idler? They both felt nice and smooth when I changed the belts.

Finally, am I completely wrong? And is it Power steering pump on the other belt?

Suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

It's usually incorrect belt tension Tim. Try renewing the tensioner. :}

To see which belt it is, carefully drip some water on the drive face of each belt in turn, if the squeal vanishes for a short while that will be the belt, the water lubricates the belt for a short while allowing slip with no noise.

Thanks for the replies - have ordered a new tensioner.

Fingers crossed that solves the problems.

Hi,if you have a/c switch it off and see if it stops squealing,I had a horrendous screach on mine and it was a seized bearing on the compressor.I doubt if you're is the same but worth a try.Mine wasn't a squeal but a horrendous screach.Regards Ry......
