My new car

Evening all. I often browse this forum but I don’t really get involved as much as I would like so I thought I would put a post up about my new car.

I’ve been thinking about replacing my 52 reg Connoisseur CDT manual for a few months now. Don’t get me wrong it’s a lovely car and I really liked it but my desire for an auto gearbox, a bit more power and a sandstone interior became too great so I started searching for a replacement.

It wasn’t long before I found something which fitted the bill almost perfectly. A 54 reg Connoisseur SE CDTi auto in Firefrost Red with a Sandstone leather interior with nearly 102,000 miles on the clock. Located about an hours drive away in Congleton. I also found out it is effectively a one owner car. It was purchased new by an elderly gentleman who sadly passed away a couple years ago. His wife then registered it in her name but didn’t really do much with it. It was then sold on to the garage who sold it to me. It has obviously been very well looked after. Serviced every year and has never failed an MOT. everything works and the only physical blemishes are a few parking scuffs and a couple of tiny dents.

Long story short I promptly arranged a viewing and a couple of days later I was driving it home.

I’ve had it for nearly 2 weeks now and can safely say (I know it will offend the purists) that it is a much better car than my old mk1. It’s smoother, handles better, has a nicer interior and somehow seems more comfortable. Ok maybe material quality is lacking a bit in some areas and the front end styling is admittedly much nicer on a mk1 but actual build quality is just as good.

It’s definitely a keeper and when funds allow I intend to get a Cowley or early Longbridge car as a stable mate.

I hope I haven’t bored you too much with my little story.

Looks very nice. I do think that the colour suits the car.

As you say.

A very nice car to keep.

Well done.

Nice car i saw this for sale a couple of weeks ago on line, have a drive over to next and first Nano meet since March 2020 due to covid, below is a link, you can get a T4 health check and good advice on the little mods you should undertake on the car, such as spy hole mod, tie back any hoses chaffing, did you do the demist test on the fan to make sure it was working correctly.

Thanks Arctic. I will look into coming to a Nano it would be nice to meet up with some fellow enthusiasts.

No I wasn't aware of the need to do a demist test. What do I do and what am I looking for?

Hi Alex.
Make sure you have the A/C all turned off, put the key into the ignition and turn the key to II without starting the car.

Then press the demist button once pressed go to the front of the car and look through the front grill to see if the fan is running continually, if not then most likely on your reg it will be the silver resistor that is not working.

If no silver resistor is showing you may have a four wire 3 speed fan fitted which would mean the low speed brushes have failed in the motor.

On your reg usually the fan is a two wire 2 speed fan with a silver resistor at about 2.00 O'clock which can be seen through the front grill and behind the fan blades, do the test and report back to us.

On my car here you can see i have a gold resistor which replaces the silver one so the fan works again, most of the time.

Iv seen this car on many occasions on th road as it used to live only a few miles away. Very nice too. I too had th same colour "which was nice" but th trim and cill crome on mine was painted over (why was that?)

Steve. I hope to come nanno in july. Not sure.. Sat or Sun.

I too have changed th resistor. A job well worth doing if faulty.

Lovely car, but one of the snags on the Mk2 is that you cannot simply unscrew the grille for inspections, badge fitting, etc. I cannot understand why Rover decided to integrate the grille and bumper on the facelift, necessitating bumper removal for relatively minor jobs...ease of manufacture, maybe!

Thanks again Arctic. I’ve done the test and the fan isn’t coming on at all

Lovely car! I always will have a sweet spot for Firefrost. My (former) ZR 160 is Firefrost. I have to conclude that Firefrost looks smashing on any Rover or MG :drool4:

I trust you will enjoy the new "ride" and will take good care of it. The car deserves it!

Keep safe!
