Spice tourer going of prime

The Spice Tourer has been with me for 51 weeks now. It has developed an interesting problem. It is an oil burning car, in the mornings when I go out I have to put the ignition on for about twenty five seconds before trying to start her. Doing this she usually fires first or second piston over the top.
If I don’t do this she will crank over and not fire up.
Occasionally when cold she will stall. Only within three mins of being started.
It is a fuel starvation problem as the under bonnet pump is thumping away to pressurise the fuel lines.
Suggestions please.
I know I am missing something but can’t put my finger on it.

If you disconnect the fuel line from the UBP where it enters the filter and place the end in a large jar with key to position 2 you should see if you are getting a good supply of fuel or not. Worth changing the fuel filter if you don't have a record of it being done before.

If you think it is something to do with fuel, try disconnecting the electrical connection on the fuel filter and try and start it.I think Trikey (Andy) made this suggestion a while ago.
