Untidy door cards

In looking through lots of adverts and reading of renovations here on the forum I'm struck by how many cars have one or more door card with wrinkles/sagging of the door card cover material.

What causes this and why is it so prevalent in 75/ZT's?

the foam they added to the doorcards don't last.. they most of added a cheap foam to keep costs down. i'm also looking to improve my doorcards

So is it just the middle foam layer that's the problem and the base and surface materials are OK?

I'll add my post if you don't mind, it may get more replies.

Also as a bit of a 'how to', remove card, separate the pieces, peel off the thin material and scrape (nasty sticky job) the orange gum off. Cards are fixed (sometimes three pieces) so the plastic rivets need removing to separate the covered area. Lots of headlining material available on ebay, 2mm foam backed all colours. A can of spray adhesive and you're ready to go. Fix material to the most severe curve first and smooth out, only glue a small area at a time and wait a couple of minutes or the glue will show through if it's still wet. Hope this helps, good luck.

The ‘foam’ isn’t really a foam! It’s a polyurethane resin that is sprayed onto the door card before the top cloth is added, it acts as a glue as well as a foam.

You must remove all of this if you are planning to recover the door cards as it won’t allow glue to stick properly if any remnants are left behind.
