Boot Release button Mod
Another little mod done today on Redfive. One thing I've always found a bit inconvenient is that the saloon models don't have a boot release button on the bootlid. Had a tourer before this which had the boot release button under the plinth. Not a big deal as can be opened using the key fob but comes in handy as I'd often leave the keys indoors after unlocking the car if I don't need them while I'm working on the car.
So fitted a small boot release switch under the lip spoiler on mine today. Just saves me having to go round to the driver's door to press the boot release button inside the car. Works nicely, has a nice little blue LED, and wont open the boot when the car is locked. See video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJSA...ature=youtu.be |
I have found all the facelift models I have owned release the boot if you depress the unlock button on the key for a few seconds.

Yes mine has that but this still comes in handy as per my post above ;)

Sorry, I didn't read your first post properly.

Any chance of a description of how to recreate this magic? Makes much more sense than grovelling around in the footwell.

Rick thats is very good :)
i would love to have the same, you have made a great modification , congratulations! |
Very simple to do :)
You'll need one of these switches or a similar style switch: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Momen...72.m2749.l2649 On the switch I used there are 4 pins. 2 are for what you want to use the switch for and 2 are for the LED. There are 2 wires at the factory boot release switch at the front of the car (the one below the bonnet release lever), you'll need to splice into these two wires and run the pair of wires to the boot lid and connect to the relevant two pins on the switch. That'll get the switch working to open the bootlid. Then to wire up the LED i simply ran a pair of wires from the boot courtesy light positive and negative wires to the switch. Very simple and only takes about an hour to do with most of the time spend running wires. |
Rick, stupid question sorry
with this modificaition still works the inside boot release? |
Yes the factory boot release button still works :)
|
If you do this mod then park & lock the car, is the boot still secure? Just worried that anybody could open it via the new button, without unlocking the car.
