Can you advise me on threadlocker

My Loctite Threadlocker stick has after many years run out.
Been online to get another one and am shocked by the price, anything from £10:eek:

I am confused by this specification Breakaway Torque M10 bolts: 19 Nm
can you tell me what it means?

I have seen pink on the threads of our cars but it is not in the WP list.

Breakaway, if you had thread lock on a fastener and wound a nut onto it without tighteneing it onto anything, it would take 19nm to undo once the thread lock has cured. Any medium strength thread locker would be suitable, a low strength may be more suitable for aluminium components, just be sparing with how much is applied! The amount of times I've come across bolts literally caked in the stuff, it can be very difficult to undo to the point you risk shearing a fastener if liberal heat isn't applied! More so with the high strength stuff though.

Most of the dispensers don't work very well - either nothing at all comes out, or far too much comes out. At least that's what's happened with every type of threadlocker I've tried - and I've caked a few bolts. :D

You should also take note of the first used by date as this product will degrade once opened and will gradually become of no use !

Loctire 603 is a medium threadlocker and is oil tolerant.

Rust. The best threadlocker there is! :getmecoat:

Yes, put some salty water on the thread as you do it up. I seem to remember that advise in an old book on Blacksmithing.

Also, (according to Henkel) shelf life of Loctite 242 Blue is 24 months from date of manufacture if the tube is unopened. I can't see anything on opened tubes so it's anybody's guess when it becomes unusable.

Probably like a jar of olives ‘refrigerate after opening and use within 3 days’. Yeah, right. No-one does, but the manufacturer’s covered legally.

With the amount of products you collect in the workshop, you could spend a fortune if you strictly abided by the rules...

I suspect my threadlocker was more then 20 years old. My tin of Engineers Blue will be about 40 years old. From time to time I add a drop of meths to it but I used it in the last week.
