It seems to me that Joe Public does not get enough warning of the dangers on that stretch of water. It looks so serene and peaceful but in reality is extremely dangerous!:eek:

There is plenty of information and safety advice about crossing Breydon Water, and it's very wise to heed the advice.

Some just won't be told, or listen. The boat hire firm will be well impressed ...not !!!

Of course we are not aware of the full facts as of yet. Could be the the boat had a technical fault which caused it to drift out of the channel and onto the mud.
Probably was an error though........One hour handover of hire craft to inexperienced helms is probably not enough.

Thankfully everyone who was on board(dog included) are safe.

Happens all the time on Breydon, usually it's just a case of sitting it out until high tide re-floats your boat. I'm guessing the list it was sitting at meant the rescue was the preferred option this time.

I might have to have a try at this boating lark, I thought it was slow and peaceful.. It's more like an extreme sport :eek:

Yeah, I have seen the you tube videos, get it wrong and its goodnight.

I've had experience of that aboard a hire yacht at Yarmouth Yacht Station. The mudweight saved us and our mast with a bridge too close for comfort. We were experienced and following all the official advice too. It was very frightening. The tides there are vicious.

I recall piloting a similar boat across there forty years ago. All went well but it was a little nerve-wracking having been warned against straying outside of the markers.

I had 17 plus years of boating out of Teignmouth in Devon.

I also rescued several boats and boaters in trouble.

Watching grockles trying to launch boats from slipways would also give a full afternoon of excitement from the very odd ways in which they tried to get boats out of or into the water.----:D

I also donated a tidy sum ( £10,000 ) to a very worthy cause. The local life boat association.
