Freelander TD4 clutch difference ?

Lo all, I have always assumed that since the TD4 shares the engine then it shares the clutch system. however I am wondering if the different 'drive' means they use different gearbox and or clutch.

The reason I am asking is that I have fancied a Freelander TD4 for some time but want a manual if possible , however I am sick to death with the 75/ZT clutch situation. I do have a genuine reason for wanting a 4 by 4 unlike some as in the winter our hamlet gets snowed in not to mention a lot of flood water on the tracks round my house.

I see lots of Freelanders with various faults on the web but never seem to see them with clutch slave failure so is it different ? , do they have a more relaible clutch or is it exactly the same and I'm just not seeing them with this fault.

Cheers

Mas

Well I didnt post re would you get a freelander but im happy to discuss :)

The freelander is actually more tunable not equally due to a superior turbo is it not ?. Ive driven one with a synergy and I didnt find it underpowered at all

At least an equal to a bog standard 2.5 disco in my opinion.

TD4 is 110 BHP......flat as a witches tit
Less tall gearing to give the impression of speed, but I wouldn't want to tune one, as the IRD units are made of chocolate.
Same turbo IIRC, same rubbish door lock solenoids, viscous coupling and very much like the 75, they tend to look good body wise, but the suspension bits rot for fun.

On saying that even after two years of booting around in my tourer, Mrs Marinabrian wants her Freeloader back on the road.............:(

The clutch hydraulics at the clutch end (and the clutch itself) are the same as our cars, and just as unreliable.

I believe the only difference is the LR pipes are metal instead of plastic.

I agree with Marinabrian.
Dont !
I had one and they fall to bits around you.
VCU is toffee
IRD is chocolate
rear diff mounts are Caramel
engine mounts must be Milky Way
Prop shaft center bearings are Turkish Delight
MPG is rubbish
speed is rubbish
Acceleration is rubbish

You think a 75 is dear to run.....try a Freeloader !

Lets not even get into when the VCU decides it does not want to play anymore and takes the rear diff and IRD unit out with it !!!!!

If you need a 4x4, think about a Toyota HiLux. I had one and they are awesome !
2.8 Diesel dual cab....

You forgot to mention that the heater matrix is an Oreo cracker.... :D

I have been a "lurker" on the Freelander forums for a while, and it seems that they have a lot more costly issues than a R75. In general, the issues you mentioned above. On the other hand, the later Freelander II (2007-) seems to be pretty bulletproof and has no special issues at all and is propaply one of the best LR`s you can buy. I think I will have a FL II one day :)

The hilux , its rep proceeds it and as a result they rightly do fetch good money.

I picked up a cheap TD4 plate and cover, AP branded, before I fit its 100% the same part?

I remember I didn't like the feel of the Xpart Borg and Beck, so sourced AP bits instead, but I am paranoid that perhaps the dreadfully underpowered Freelander has a weaker clutch plate?
