KV6 190 - Upgrades??
Morning,
I'm well aware there's a few threads on this but a lot of them are quite old..... So can anything be done to improve the 190? as it stands i already have a larger stainless exhaust and a K&N drop in filter, Shannon tube is new. Just after some more power, i mean if nothing comes up here then i'll grab a spare and get it to an engine builders next year. |
As a NASP engine and a MG Rover engine there is not much you can do. From my research as I am planning to do the full monty when funds are available. The following can be done:
Performance filter (panel/cone) Stainless steel exhaust from the exhaust manifold Piper cams Cylinder head poiished and ported Remapp The above is off the shelf bits and my VERY rough calculation should take it from 187 to 220 and very expensive lol . According to info I have found on the net the componants on the zt were rated upto 220 so I am not looking for silly figures. Even JC on Top Gear said that a boffin at SAAB said that for a front wheel drive car the most effecient power delivery is 220. |

You would have to spend alot of silly money to get 240/250 and the engine was never designed to go that far. Plus you would have to start thinking of changing orther parts to handel the extra power eg up rated clutch.

I know of plenty of front wheel drive cars that are pushing more than 220BHP.
I didn't realise these engines were so bad at getting past what is the allowed extra BHP. Even the diesels you can't push too far because of the cast cranks. Does make me wonder if a complete engine swap might be a better option with a different manufacturer.:} |
I have seen the Top Gear programs where cars are doing 220plus bhp, but the exrta power to me seems only useable in a straight line.

I agree with everything you say. To me kv6 is not the engine to go down for high bhp track car. For my own reasons for doing the mods is purly that it can be done.

I would be happy with 220, and an engine swap would be a fun place to start... i do happen to have an older 3.0 V6 12v Alfa engine sat there, thats 260bhp... i wonder how hard it would be to make that fit. My main reason for sticking to the KV6 is the LPG setup i would want to retain that. |
