Headlight high beam mot fail
Hi chaps. Just fixed most of my Mot fail items but what I thought was the simplest has turned out to be the most challenging.
Drivers side high beam is out. New bulb didn't work. Swapped working bulb from other side and didn't work. I now have three bulbs that all work LHS but not RHS. I have read about earthing or chaffing problems but how can I check these? Anyone experienced this and if so how did you solve it? Rover Connie CDTI tourer. |

Check the wiring for the headlight. The wiring loom for the driver's side headlight can rub on the chassis arm which over time can cut the wires causing certain bulbs to not work.

I too have experienced these particular gremlins https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=279150
This was over a year ago and (touch wood) it's been fine ever since, not a clue as to why, but just happy they've stayed away. Regards |
Mine was the light switch module. ( LSM. )
Unplugged the connector and sprayed the pins with WD 40. No problems since. ( 5 years plus. ) |

Thank you for your helpful post. I can't quite understand where I should be looking. Is this photo very close to the multi plug just below main beam. Or is it somewhere out of view? If latter what do I need to remove in order to see it? |

Fixed it!
So I took the front off (first time) removed headlight searching for chaffed wires. All ok. Whilst cleaning I thought the earth wires looked grubby. Removed cleaned replaced, tested and worked!
Surprised just one bulb refused to work due to dirty earth as all the other bulbs ok, but very pleased with myself. Can arrange mot retest now. :} |
A simple fix is always the best ! :D
