Buttons broken on key fob

Hi guys,

The lock/unlock buttons on my wife’s key have fallen out for her 75. She can still use it by pressing the little connector inside but they can also fall off as well. How can I get a replacement key/case? Do I need a replacement key or can it all be transferred into a new case? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks.

The existing PCB, transponder chip and blade can all be transferred to a new case. Alternatively, as I have done, just transfer the electronics to the new case and keep the blade in the current case.

There are fairly recent threads on this subject Ravinder, some of them mine.

It can all be transferred to a new case. You don't need a replacement blank blade. There are a multitude of new cases on eBay but many are extremely poorly finished and don't work. My tips would be:
  • Don't buy one without photographs of the inside.
  • Look for the date clock and battery number moulded into the inside.
  • Examine the two clips which should have a triangular top to retain the PCB. Many don't have this and they don't work!

Do look out for the chip in the back cover, easy to miss and chuck out with the old one.

This may be of some use for you, I bought two new keys of Ebay and followed arctics advice worked a treat, one blade came out with the plastic surround so just glued it into new case after removing the blank from the new case but the second new key blade came out of the plastic surround and was stepped so fetteld old blade to fit (ground a step into it)plastic surround then fitted and put the pin back in :}

Another option would be to source replacement buttons. That's what I did, as it's much easier that trying to swap cases! The buttons will probably need a bit of trimming to make them fit, and I can explain how if you do decide to go down this route.
