Spare Parts - Availability

Hello all,

I'm starting to get a bit worried about the availability of spares for our lovely cars. Having read through a couple of threads on .org (search for "Spare Parts - Availability") it would appear some vehicles have now been put off road because of spares (rear tourer springs, apparently).

Are the facelift bumpers actually available again now?

Does anyone have anything positive to say on spares?

I'm hoping that when the Chinese get going then more compatible spares will be available.

This is how i understand it, once the MG7 appears there hopefully should be some stability put back into the parts business.

75 Parts availablity

As regards 75 Tourer springs :-
Our garage sourced one at short notice when they discovered a broken spring on our 2001 Tourer.

I'm positive! There are still loads of MG Rover dealers who carry stock, and several specialist suppliers like SMC and RimmerBros (both recommended).

for the run-of-the-mill stuff there are Halfrauds / CAF and other moto-factors, and for the more specifc stuff, BMW share a great number of pats in common with the 75.

Of course for the more RARE items, there is always eBay..

called in my local MG/Rover today Re top rad hose. the O ring is letting coolant past but rather than just being able to replace O ring the whole top pipe is needed I asked how long it would take to get one, they made one call, pipe is going to be there this afternoon don't know why but i was surprised it was so quick.

I am not sure that we need to worry overly just yet for most parts availability. There were nearly a quarter of a million 75s and ZT made over the production life which gives a fairly large market, and whilst the number on the roads is going to decrease over the years, there will be a large number around for some time to come. Therefore a ready market for spares will exist providing business for the parts suppliers.

With the Chinese appearing to be getting some sort of production going, that should assure the panel and petrol engine part supply. The diesel engine should be okay for parts through BMW and the gearboxes were third party supplied in any case.

I think that the first thing that will likely become an issue with the cars is the internal trim and upholstery, possibly model specific electrical and electronic components. I agree that there will be and already are some issues with individual parts, that may be sorted by the likes of Xpart and Rimmers to name a few.

After all. you can still own and operate a P5, P6 or SD1 and they have been out of production for between 20 and 35 years.

One of the silly parts they stopped making was the Black Diesel filler cap only the petrol one now available in Green. Now thats a sure way to confuse SWMBO!

as far as I'm concerned if you can get bits for cars a lot older,Hillman,Heralds, Austins, Prefects etc etc your bound to be able to get some stuff for 75 /MG even if you have to adapt other kit.
