plastic dustbin V wheelie bin
My goodness wheelie bins are noisy. The wheels make a noise, the lid makes a noise. Even moving them in a confined space is not as easy
Been used to plastic bins but where we are now have plastic wheelie bins and the noise, my goodness. Not sure if they are more efficient labour wise needing less men on the dustcart but I dont like them macafee2 |
They do have a db sticker on them to warm about max noise levels!

Yeah, they're rubbish!

Not as much noise as the high pressure hydraulic pumps which operate the loading arms nor the brakes as these heavy collection vehicles grind to a halt!!

Couldn't manage without wheelie bins here. Bin has to be at the front of the house which involves getting them down half a dozen steps, easy with a wheelie bin, wouldn't fancy humping an ordinary bin down.

The old ones from the early 80's were so much quieter and well made. We have had to replace ours recently, the plastic now, being at least half the thickness of the old, the wheels being thinner, and the weight is massively less.
If the noise is really an issue, you could add sound deadening sheets on the inside, or paint some felt roof on the inside. These will dampen the sound a little, but it will be temporary. The bin itself acts like a speaker - with the vibrations rattling through the side panels, and being amplified by the empty space. When you are moving it, you could reduce the noise a little too, by opening the lid. They are easier to move around though than dragging a heavy plastic bin, it just takes practice. Pull it over longish distances, and push it into position. |
