Early S,T and V reg 75s
Me and friend have been researching early metros. This has got me thinking about 75s .
I know the earliest 75s came out on S regs and the launch cars came out on a T plate. When did the first customer cars started to be delivered? Cars started to be delivered in February 1999 (this would have been the press cars) Went on sale 17th June 1999 S reg – August 1998 to February 1999 T reg – March 1999 to July 1999 V reg – August 1999 to February 2000 W reg – March 2000 to July 2000 My cowley 75 V149 LOE was registered on 1st September 1999 this is only 1 month after the T reg cars stopped. Was there any T reg customer cars or were the T reg launch spec cars sold off later on when they were not needed just like the S reg ones. Thank you. |
Yes, there certainly are T Reg customer cars. There one up for grabs in the members cars for sale section if you are interested.
On the subject of T Reg. whether it ended on 31st July or 31st August 1999 depends on where you look. |
Don’t forget the Jap spec cars, a lot of those were built earlier than they were registered.
My Jap spec on a Y reg is an earlier build than Rogues diesel on a W reg! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Give Paul Collins aka SonicZS a pm. He has one of the oldest 75 Tourers which he rescued from being made into baked bean tins.

And we think mine was built Late November ish 99 if i remember rightly |
My car was registered 8th September 99 on a V plate by Averills of Diss (Rover main dealer) and was used by the head sales director (so I was told by the previous owner) until he bought it direct from them. Although it is a "Club" spec car, it has lots of "goodies" including Walnut steering wheel, gear lever, Rover logo mats, etc. It still has the original exhaust from the front to the rear box (replaced a couple of years ago), original drop links and track rod ends. I previously had an 05 1.8 Connoisseur manual and the difference between the early and late cars is very obvious when you have driven both. (I prefer the early ones!).;)

June 1999 customers could buy them, launch cars were not allowed to be sold by the registering dealer until they were 6 months old.

Yes my launch car although registered shortly after delivery T reg, wasn't sold to it's first owner until January ;)
Some dealers didn't bother registering them until later hence some launch cars are V reg. Russ |
Sweden is your key! We have R plates, and if sold prior to October 12, 1999, there's even a chance for P's ;)
(Sorry, couldn't resist :D Kinda equal to "cheating" yourself a low serial Nintendo 8-bit - buy from another region ) |
