Vague Steering
Hi all. I'm after some advise.
I have noticed recently that the steering on my ZT is becoming increasingly vague. There is no knocking. But when I jacked up the driver's side front wheel. I can push the wheel/hub forward with a very definite movement, which would indicate that the bottom ball joint has gone. Which would be odd as I replaced both front wishbones and rear bushes only last October (7 mounts ago). I'm probably clutching at strews here as I really don't wont to be doing them again. Is there anything else that I need to check? For e.g. the front hubs where they mount??. Failing that could anyone recommend somewhere reputable to purchase new ones. Regards Paul |
Look closely at the play- it could be the lower hub worn and the ball joint moving in the hub. If the hub has worn then you will need a new one.
The factory torque setting is barely enough to hold the ball joint tightly, and any play at all will soon wear the hub away. |
Have you checked the rear Bush on the end of the wishbone. That what it sounds like to me from the symptoms mentioned.
