MG ZT-T clutch trouble!
Hi,
I’m new to the forum and bought my ZT-T a few months ago. It’s the 115bhp Diesel model and I’ve done a few thousand miles without any problems. I’ve just got back in the car and the clutch won’t depress. With some force it’s depressed to the floor but now there is no resistance. I say no resistance but there is slightly for the first few inches of travel. I’m currently stuck in St Helens and live In Wirral. Will see what the AA say but thought everyone’s knowledge here would be a good place to start. Thanks in advance Dave |
Could be as simple as adodgy connector to the slave cylinder or in worst case the slave could have failed.
Either way not the end of the world, get a proper diagnosis and go from there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Hope so - I’m by no means a mechanic and with no where open at the minute it’s a bit of a pain especially getting in to work.
Thanks for the reply |
if you don't have an undertray look under the car, is there signs of a fluid leak?
Can you remove the master cylinder cap and the rubber under it and check how much fluid if any you have in it, there wont be a lot at the best of times macafee2 |
So eventually got a tow home.
The AA guy had a look and said the link has snapped? I’d imagine that happened when I applied pressure when the clutch was stuck in the up position. He seems to think it would be a gearbox out job but he only had the briefest of looks. I guess nothing is going to happen until a garage is open locally. Thanks for the replies. |

If the clutch goes rock hard, this is usually the quick release connector popping apart - a good garage will usually be able to cut the connector out and join the pipework manually in about 15 minutes. :)
I'd start there, if the Master does turn out to be the issue we have them here: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/gen...d2f6f89b&_ss=r |
Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately I’m struggling to post any images it seems.
Latest is I’ve got it booked in on Thursday to be looked at. I may post in the forum to see if anyone is or knows of a mechanic around the Wirral that could maybe come out and have a look. Thanks |
