Battery type 100 .. will it fit?
 

Will a type 100 battery fit in the battery box WITH the lid closed?

I have measured it and I think it will, has anyone done it?

They are 23mm taller and 65mm longer, so no they don't fit, plus a 096 is absolutely perfectly fine in terms of capacity for any 75 diesel.

If it isn't broken, don't try and fix it, just buy a decent quality battery, my own personal preference is Bosch S40008.

I have used '100' batteries in my 75 (Yuasa and Exide) and the lid does fit. It appears that there is some variation in the case size depending upon brand. If it's no more than 175mm high it will clear the lid.

In my view, having extra capacity is always handy, particularly with a diesel engine so I would go for a '100' if you can but as MarinaBrian says, an 096 will suffice.

I agree with Brian, typically type 100 batteries are 353mm long vs type 96 that typicaly 278mm

As I said Mick, there appears to be some variation. Both my 100 batteries have been 278 mm long (and, come to think of it, so was the Unipart Samson which came with the car).

Unipart Sampson, it's a shame Unipart went bump, as the warranty was as long as you owned the car......I know that over the space of 25 years I had five 045 batteries under their lifetime warranty

A Unipart 100 part number is GBY1096 meaning it's actually a 096 ;)

What brand of battery do you have fitted now Simon, is it an Exide or Yuasa? I'm curious as the 100 battery I was given by a friend, although it was technically possible to fit it into the battery box, it wasn't possible to fit the clamp due to the length :shrug:

The starter on the V6 automatic is 1.8Kw which if my maths is correct equates to a CCA of 150A.

If you compare to the diesel at 2Kw so a CCA of 166A, I'm also curious as to why the extra capacity?

The 1800 requires a 63Ah battery with a CCA of 100A, the V6 and diesel a 75Ah version, so if we omit the battery loading during cold cranking, then unless there is a hugely reduced amount of electrical equipment available to the 1800 models, then the differential in capacity is merely related to starting capacity.

Just to muddy the waters a little more, a standard 096 battery is 190mm tall, but there is a lowline variant available which is 175mm tall.

Back to the original post, the maximum dimensions of the battery are length 278mm and the height 190mm, and 175mm wide, and if your intended battery dimensions are similar, then it will fit in the box.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone but take a look at an Exide EA722 (think the case is described as 1001 or maybe 1006). It's a 72A, 720CCA spec. 278L x 175H x 175W and overall about 5mm less O/A height at the terminals than an 096 spec. I got mine on an offer from Eurocar Parts about 3 years back - perfect, unfortunately I broke an end clip on my new cover before obtaining the Exide - anyone got a perfect cover they want to dispose of?

Thanks all, I have ordered a Type 096 one the same as the one that's in there already although with more power and a 5 years warranty.

The one that's fitted is a Halford's battery with a 3 year warranty, its now almost 9 years old and sadly on it's way out.
