Always remember my first flight to the Philippines, Philippine Airlines 747. I think it was a 747/0, rattled, creaking, taking off from an intermediate airport there was a wave of water came out of the cool drawer containing Coke cans etc in the galley and the water ran along the walkway

I am quite surprised they are being fazed out, I thought they were the back bone of passenger flight.

The 747 was certified by the FAA for commercial passenger service on December 30, 1969. The 747 entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970

1969/1970 to present day, 52 years a long time ago, Like all back bones they get tired and worn out,,,and start looking towards retirement;);)

My "usual" holiday flight (from Norwich) is now using the 737MAX under its "new" name (737-8). Hopefully, all the "niggles" will have been ironed out by the time that I am confident enough to sit in a confined space with 200 people again!:getmecoat:
