Abs fault..
 

Hi all,

Our tourer had an intermittent abs issue.. only rearing it's ugly head once you had been driving for a while. Abs fault warning showed up at random points and lasted only a few seconds, it affected the Speedo and there was a loss of power (as of the throttle had been turned off.


I have just replaced the driver's side front abs sensor and now the abs light goes on, and no abs fault appears in the info screen. Only issue is.... Every time I touch the brake pedal, the abs is coming in and there's a clicking noise now when driving along.

Anyone any ideas on what to do next?

did you use a decent quality sensor , a lot of cheapo's just don't work ? . :D


On odd occasions you may need to trim a bit off the sensor mounting to allow it to fit closer to the hub.

The brand is intermotor of that's a known good brand for these?

Okay I'll give that a go.
I get no abs warning issues or anything.
Any speed above 10mph and the abs comes in at the brake pedal every time I brake.

I've just popped the driveshaft out and cleaned up the end on the drive shaft where the end of the sensor reads and also the face of the bearing inside the hub and made sure the sensor was clean.

i bought a quite well known sensor from a local motor facxtors ( cambria sensor) and it did not work.



Then I did get a DGMRS one after , it cost more and was an unkown make ? to me , but it did work :shrug:

I've had it confirmed by another local member who also uses the same motor factors and has confirmed the sensors are good.

Bit of an update following advice,

Battery disconnected, reconnected in an attempt to reset things.

Went for a drive, abs still kicking in when braking at low speed.
Went for a bit of a drive, above 30mph for a short distance and no more low speed abs issue. An audible click still coming from the drivers front wheel (sounds like a stone in the tyre but doesn't get quicker with the speed of the car). Then suddenly, abs warning flags up and the abs symbol comes up. No more working abs. Once extreme to the other. When this happens, the audible clicking suddenly stops at the same time as the warning illuminating?

The sensor doesn't read anything on the end of the driveshaft but the magnetic reluctor ring built in to the inner face of the wheel bearing.


If you have a multimeter handy you can check the voltage from the sensor - it changes from 1.7v to 0.7v as the magnetic segments pass the sensor. With the wheel jacked up you can rotate it and chalk mark the tyre wall - you should end up with 48 marks for one revolution. If the same segments are missing each revolution then suspect the reluctor and if they are random then suspect the sensor.
