Hi all, I did a search but nothing showed up, has anyone obtained an ipod or similar adaptor for the symphony? The car i'm currently looking at buying has no cd multichanger in the glovebox and I rather like the idea of having a glovebox again after 2 years of my saloon having a multichanger in there, so my question, can an Ipod adaptor be successfully added so I can use an ipod instead of a multichanger?

The first picture shows an iPod Connection box for the Symphony, although Biggles says it works better with his new Hi Line system.

The Connects 2 web-site says that one of their main dealers is Halfords.

I'm considering something similar for my updated Hi-Line system possibly to replace my CD player for the same reason.

There have been posts on this before in this forum but in short:

The Connects2 interface served me pretty well with the Symphony despite its limitations: The interface is supposed to map CD changer buttons to the first playlists on the iPod but that never worked. What did work very well was:

* Skipping tracks up/down using steering wheel controls or HU controls
* Playing/pausing on HU mode change or power on/off

I have one "top rated" playlist that I sometimes revert to but mainly I select music by browsing so I never missed the stuff that didn't work.

The Connects2 units seem to consist of two boxes: One that translates whatever language the car uses - in our case I-bus - to Sony(?) CD changer protocol and then another box that does Sony -> iPod.

I say Sony because they do a lot of Sony changer stuff, but it could also be AI-net (Alpine) because the cable between the boxes looks just like an AI-net cable.

When I had my SLE delivered the other day there was a note in it saying look out for an mp3 adapter coming soon for symphony. Might be worth investigating that :)

Theres also an connects two ipod box that goes straight to Symphony. Fitted one myself. Don't use playlists so I don't know if it fixes the other problem, but works fine for me.

I posted a link to a place selling them off, but that was months ago so they are probably sold out.

Thanks guys, I've never owned an Ipod, so I plug all this in, run the wire to the inside of the glove box and plug the Ipod onto it.

that's about the sum of it.

If you select what you want to listen to, the plug it in, it keeps on playing. You should be able to select certain playlists (that you create using itunes) but I've never done this.

Bear in mind you don't want to be selecting what to listen to on the move: the display is too small, even on a normal iPod.

Steering wheel controls work for next track / previous track, too. I tend to select 'shuffle trackes' and then just skip anyhthing I don't want to hear.

Any specific Q's feel free to ask as I got quite familair with iPods last year.
