Brand New Midlands Nano Venue

Well at long last it looks like we have found a new permanent home for the Midland Nano Meets as our old venue at The Four Ashes pub still remains unoccupied, empty and boarded up.

The address of the new venue is Mind Body Lab, Kings Road, Calf Heath, Wolverhampton, WV10 7DU and is only 1.3 miles and 4 minutes away from the Four Ashes. (If you use what3 words search for rooms.dives.lodge)
We will be there on a trial basis for 2 weekends on 6/7 August 2022 and 17/18 September 2022 but will hopefully continue into 2023 and beyond

For the first time we are having to ask for an entry fee of £5 per car which will provide cover for one or both days, ALL of the money will be paid over to the landlord of the site who will get £5 per car however many turn up.
For anyone who may want to stay over and camp I have been quoted £20 a car per night as the normally locked gates will need to be left open and someone will need to keep an eye on the premises

It is with some regret that we now have to charge an entry fee but obviously when looking for a venue we were never likely to get the same free deal that we had at the Four Ashes, and last week I spoke to over 20 owners who all attended the recent Nano Meet at Teddybears and all were in agreement that £5 is reasonable

Money will be collected from you after you have parked up so there will be nobody on the gate, instead money will be collected once you are in and you will be given a ticket to write on your car registration and place it in your windscreen so we know you have paid, if you return on the next day just replace the ticket in your windscreen as proof of payment

The venue is near to Calf Heath Narrowboat Marina and the business that are letting the venue to us is called The Mind and Body Lab, which is a Yoga and Well Being clinic , they have toilets we can use, will sell tea/coffee and food for their own customers which will also be available to us and I would encourage you to buy something if you can so we can build up a good relationship with the owner as we hope to have the venue as a permanent one going forward from 2023

They also have gardens overlooking the canal which will also be available to us

FLYING BANANA 24th June 2022 17:54

I’ll try and make the September meet.

Bogbrush82 24th June 2022 18:06

So glad this has happened, and as I said last week at Teddy Bears £5 is small change compared to the amount of money I've saved over the years by attending these events.

squire 24th June 2022 18:43

Many years ago South Staffs MG Owners Club used to hold their evening meets there.
A few remarked it was a bit awkward to find, but I used to go left just before the old Four Crosses pub on the A5, carry on under the motorway, just passed the Dog and Partridge turn left into Queens Road, carry on and turn left at the end of the road and its turn right through the gates and you're there iirc. This is coming from Cannock/Longford Island direction.

Never been to a Nano meet for the simple reason that nothing has needed doing (that's jinxed it!), but the new venue looks so attractive, I might come along just for a chat if that's ok. Would also learn some "how to's" as well.

Hi Malcolm.
Please do come you are more than welcome, quite a few owners turn up just for a chat and to socialise, the Nano is not all about being hands on, the new venue looks really relaxing too so a bit of a bonus.

A big thank you must go to trebor (Rob) for his leg work on finding the place, well perceiving as we did have this place in our sights a few years back but nothing came of it then as it was being run by someone else.

As always all owners of a MGZT, MGZT-T Rover 75 are more than welcome hopefully this will be our new Nano ERA you can read our history below. ;)

dattrike 24th June 2022 22:18

Have to agree, big thank you to Rob, without his efforts the Nano's would be a thing of the past, not denigrating all the efforts put in by the Nano crew. Thanks Rob, I feel a big hug coming on.

super chip 25th June 2022 08:42

This is excellent news. Thank you for all your work on this Rob and the rest of the nano team. Your all stars
The entry cost is a bargain. As I have saved hundreds of pounds over the last decade and meet some great people and thanks to the nano team I can do most jobs on my cars my self now. Well done. And I will see some of you tomorrow. All the best Chris

Mark190 25th June 2022 09:59

That looks a really nice place. I think everybody would feel better contributing a small amount towards it, you dont get something for nothing after all. Hopefully i can make it to at least one of them.

bl52krz 27th June 2022 15:34

Just like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Trebor and the crew for all the time and effort that is put in to make our Nano Meets the success they are. Special thanks to Rob for putting himself in the hot seat to find a new site for the Nano’s. Must mention Artic(Steve) for all the good work he puts in at these meets. The £5 is a fair price for all the knowledge that is gained attending these meets.

trebor 28th June 2022 10:15

Thanks to all for singing my praises but the Nano meets are only successful as we have a team of people who make it happen not just me and of course if no owners turned up we would have no meets so all the reward we need is for people to attend the meets and have an enjoyable time

Arctic 29th June 2022 09:21

Nano Brand New venue

Wow 339 views when i last looked and only 12 attending, i know its 5.5 weeks away and more may add their names but, i would say we need at least 20-30 or more for this to be a success, i doubt below that for a total week end is going cut the mustard, and just a reminder early in the thread that, can we also try and support the Cafe on site as the old saying goes' first impressions.

All owners & members are very welcome, if you have never come to one please do try, if you have been before maybe come again, you can ask questions about a problem on your car, get help to fix said problem, help with fitting something to your car, or just come for a chat.

stocktake 29th June 2022 09:33

Just to echo what Arctic says, we need to support these meets or lose them, it's that simple. I definately cannot make the August one but maybe can the September one. The fact it is a 220 mile round trip doesn't help nowadays but I am determined to make a Nano this year, help where I can and share what I have learnt and know about these cars.
There really is nothing else like these in the country and the information and knowlage that is available is second to none.

Well said Dave and Arctic,

I'm lucky that I live local. I'll always try and attend these meets when I can even though I don't have a Rover any more, the 10 or 11 years I did have one these meets were invaluable for the help, work done and the friendship I received.
I certainly want these meets to continue to help others keep these cars going so please come along and give your support, it would be a travesty if the meets die through lack of support when so many have benefitted with work done for.

Martyn

Bogbrush82 1st July 2022 19:39

The fact that these meets are local to me as well have been an absolute godsend. I may not have a Rover anymore, but that's never stopped me from feeling welcome or even working on mine or dads car. Impact drivers and 8mm sockets aren't fussed about what you drive. :}

FrattonEnder 5th July 2022 13:40

Typically I'm not double, but triple booked for the August dates. I'll need to have words with my social secretary! Hopefully be there for the September ones though.

You are welcome Chris sorry you were having issues in the first place

It is nice to see interest in the new Nano meeting place is gaining ground. For those who have never been to a Nano Meet, the experts who do the work ( the Nano team), have vast experience of everything Rover/ MGZT. The only thing that can not be undertaken is anything to do with oil. This is to stop contamination of the area allocated to the Meet. Anything else is possible. See the photos in the archives of the Nano Meets. It is also nice to put a name to a face, or a face to a name.

For those that may be travelling through the Tipton area on the way to the meets please note that Great Bridge is a mess right now due to roadworks, so it might be easier to avoid it and go down the Black Country new road. :}

Arctic 27th July 2022 21:44

Only just over a week left for the 6th and 7th August meet at our new venue, hopefully we will see a good turnout, as it is you the owners whom make these meets worth while, you can add your name to the attendance list on the nano forum, of you like just turn up either is ok.

As always help will be on hand with any questions or help you may need to solve a problem with your car.

There will be free plenum tray mods, which you can just pick up and exchange them if you know how if not someone will help, you then just place your old plenum tray next to the modified ones, these can then be re-modified for the next day meet.

Free intercooler bends with the Viton O-rings, again as above but these need to be asked for, your old one will be given in to add new O-rings to for the next meet.

The same with header tank caps with new O-rings.

Gold resistor can be obtained and fitted if you should need one.

There will also be at least one of each fans 1.8,2.0, 2.5, & diesel available if they are needed, again help to fit the fan or fitted for you if you are not able to do so yourself.

Diesel manifolds, which are clean and with cleaned EGR & MAP sensor, bypass ones also if required.

If you have any parts you would like help to fit to your car please bring those with you, no tools will be needed as the crew carry almost every tool that may be needed.

Also remember you can come and just have a chin wag, or watch what is going on, refreshments are available as are toilets, and a nice walk along the canal.

So put that reminder in your phone or calendar all the best Arctic. ;)

Only a few days to go before our 1st meet at our new venue, so I went there today and saw Karina and all good to go , gates will be open for 9 and a reminder if you are there early we have the area immediately in front of you as you go through the gates , there is a grassy area plus some hard standing which may also come in useful for us.

Karina will make us very welcome and is keen to make this work, she is not phased if we only get 20 cars over the weekend but hopefully we can build numbers back up now it looks like we have a new venue for our meets and a reminder that you will need to pay £5 for attending whether you are there for one or both days it is still only £5 which needs to be given to me and I will give you a notice to put in your windscreen which you can add your registration to and will be evidence of payment, it would be appreciated if you would all display the notices on your windscreen when you have paid as it will be my way of knowing who has paid or not given that people arrive at all different times and please bring cash for your entry fee as I do not have a card machine

There will be tea and coffee on sale in Karina’s premises plus light snacks I believe and although there is no compulsion for you to buy we are trying to create a good impression so if we buy a drink or two it will probably go down well

There is a toilet block next to Karina’s premises which is for our use and beyond there is a grassy area and Karina’s garden which we can all use if we want to take a break from the cars and the garden leads onto the canal towpath and the marina so it really is a lovely venue

I will take some pictures of the layout when we are there on Saturday and post on here after the meet ,but I do get a good feeling that this will all work out for us as a new and permanent venue especially as the Four Ashes is still boarded up and empty

Will see those of you who are coming on Saturday and/or Sunday and a reminder of the direction to the new venue from The Four Ashes below:

Great work by Rob above and we all appreciate it, so lets make this venue a good success for us going forward, as an adage can we all take our time to have a good read of the ethos found on the Nano forum written by Paul a long time ago, it as worked for us well and should do for the future, there as been one change as we know, that is now we have to pay for our venue, which i think we all know is not to bad in todays climate.

Copy of ethos below for those that do not visit the Nano forum that often.

( Sun Oct 27, 2013 4:24 pm )

The Nano-meets as we know them today were born out of a simple ethos. Nothing more than the desire to help others.

Perhaps the best way to explain would be by example.

Let's say it's Sunday afternoon and you have a job to do on your car. You think you can manage it but you are concerned about getting stuck in because you will need the car for work the next day.

Wouldn't it be great if a mate turned up and just gave you that extra bit of confidence to say:- "Yes, remove that bolt." or "Yes, cut the blue wire."

That's what Nano-meets are all about. You do the work, but with the knowledge that there is somebody nearby who can keep you on the right track, provide the correct tool or the appropriate wiring diagram as and when needed. It really is a great feeling when you finish the job and it all works perfectly :)

Over time, the "Nano-meet crew" has evolved into a nucleus within which most things become possible. Not only in skills and ability but also in experience; where are the snags?, how long does it take?, what extra bits and pieces do I need?.

The nano-meet crew is only that though. A nucleus. Everybody who turns up at a Nano-meet is vital to the success of the endeavour and is expected to be involved. Not just in stripping down a car's front end, or tearing the BCU wiring apart, but also in passing a spanner when asked, getting a cup of tea, encouraging, imparting experience, holding an umbrella if needed. Also observing and learning, so that next time you can put your experience to good use. We all had to start somewhere.

Perhaps at this point I ought to say a little about how much it costs. Not much I can say though actually... other than NOWT :) A founding principle of the nano-meets is that no money changes hands, other than for the cost of parts maybe. I hope this will alleviate the mutual embarrassment which sometimes occurs when you try to put your hand in your pocket for your cash and it gets waved away. If you prefer, the only currency at the Nano-meets is help and enthusiasm

I expect you'll notice a mind-boggling array of tools, specialist equipment, nuts, bolts, crimps, terminals etc. at a Nano-meet. Nano-meeter's spend a lot of time, money and effort in acquiring this kit and overall, most people respect this and play fair. What do I mean by play fair? Well, if you borrow a tool, please return it from whence it came and in the condition in which you'd like to receive it. If you have a missing windscreen scuttle panel clip and someone says "help yourself" he or she means, take the one you need and not a pocketful. Somebody paid good money for the bits and pieces so readily available and as you might imagine, it becomes a little annoying when somebody asks for one or two items and then walks off with a couple of dozen "just in case". So you see what I mean by "play fair"

Nano-meeters give of their time freely and without reservation so if you see a frazzled T4 operator or handbrake mod fitter take a bit of down time for a quick drink or smoke, please be understanding and certainly don't say something like, "Is that really what you're here for?" Trust me, a comment like that really will not help :)

By the way... it's YOUR car. You take responsibility for it. You decide whether you are happy to let a madman start tearing it apart. We will usually try to assist with most things which are within our ability and within the bounds of common sense. A rule of thumb is that it must be comfortably do-able in the time available and "nothing oily". The venues we use are granted to us free of charge and we really, really, want to be invited back again so it is vital that we don't leave a mess. Please consider these things when deciding what to do. if somebody with experience says "yeah - no problem", great. If they say "no way", then please respect their views.

Cars and people in the same area can happily co-exist, providing both drivers and pedestrians take care. With upwards of 50 cars in a relatively confined area, you do need to look out :) Perhaps it is best to mention also, at this juncture, that it probably isn't a good idea to park your car in the access to the T4 area and start stripping out the interior :) The organizers try to arrange things to ensure smooth running but we need a bit of help from everybody :)

Have fun, get stuck in, maybe gain a sense of achievement. This is a Nano-meet

And if you have never been to one but would like to see what we are all about, check out the short video on you tube below:)

New Crew List.

Good Morning guy & gals first meet at our new venue starts today, hopefully it will have a good turn out please remember you can also just turn up, a quick little reminder that we now have to pay for our venue since losing the Four Ashes due to closing.

So therefore there is a small charge for each car which is £5 it would be great if you could have the change payment will be to Rob (trebor) whom will give you a ticket to display in your car window screen.

Enjoy and have some fun, help with car problems or little jobs you may want to do, cafe and toilets on sire for your use cheers Arctic;)

trebor 6th August 2022 18:49

Well I think we can say that our first meet at the new venue went well, we had 21 cars in attendance with a few non 75 or ZT amongst them but that didn't matter and the weather was glorious. I had to go in the Freelander as although I started out in the 75 it kept cutting out and I struggled home and swopped cars

There was not much work done today, as not many people there wanted jobs doing, there was a new rear door actuator fitted, rear seat cushion fixed in properly, and a small amount of electrical work on some halos and not much more but we did get a chance to take in and explore the new venue and everyone I spoke too really likes it, there were drinks available with lights snacks coming soon and certainly in time for our September meet, and hopefully it can soon become our new and permanent home

We did have a 75 V8 in attendance and a ZT V8 with a supercharger fitted by Dreadnought, plus it became an "international" meet as we were joined by Pim and his son Thomas from Club Seventyfive who were in the UK for the weekend for the RoverFest Meet at Milton Keynes on Sunday 7 August.

Pim's car is the silver tourer in the pictures which has covered 363,000 miles and is in remarkable condition for the mileage and a real credit to him, his son Thomas showed us pictures of his Rover V6 190 and his Rover 200 Coupe which also look in outstanding condition and they are both really flying the flag for the Rover brand

I would like to especially thank all those who travelled a distance to get to the meet , I say it every time but with fuel still between £8 and £9 per gallon it really is appreciated when people make such an effort to come and see us.

Dave (Stocktake) had a round trip of 200 miles to come and support us , Bernard came from Evesham and John Aston from Bromsgrove, plus there are probably others who I dont even know about, but a big thanks to everyone who came today however far you travelled and many thanks to Bogbrush for the free pair of Alpine speakers he gave me

We will be there again tomorrow and hope to see some of you there, my pictures from today are below:

New Venue

I agree good first turn out, as you say not much really done, i was left twiddling my thumbs most of the day, but made a changed from being manic, big thank thank you to our fellow crew member Mr stocks (Dave) for bring me the two rear exhausts for the tourer (FOC), i have a choice now to add one and do the other one up and pass it on if someone else needs it at the meet going forward (FOC).

Look forward to tomorrow, do have a few little jobs to help out with but nothing major, big thanks to all those that came it is only with your help and attendance that we can keep going so yes lets use it or lose it as the saying goes

daveo138 6th August 2022 22:56

See you all tomorrow, although with diesel at £1.85/L, it's £8.41/gallon

bl52krz 6th August 2022 23:08

As Trebor and Artic say, not bad for a first meeting at the new venue. Interesting to have a chat with Pim and his son, both avid Rover/MG enthusiasts. Hope they enjoy their trip to Roverfest Sunday. Nice just to have a chat for a change for Trebor and Artic. Weather was great, hope it is the same for tomorrow. Also thanks for the photo memories to Trebor.

trebor 7th August 2022 17:23

Well another good day today, less cars with only12 in attendance but glorious sunshine yet again, not many jobs undertaken, Shannon Tube changed on Mick's V6, fixed my airbag light with some switch cleaner in the underneath connector drivers side, some loose and rattling door cards sorted, Scott's electric sunblind investigated as not closing all the way to the top.

We had 26 cars over the weekend which for our first meet was really good, and Karina who runs the on site business was happy to get £5 a car for a total of £130, and she is more than happy for us to continue so looks like we may have a permanent new home going forward into 2023

Once again although only 12 cars , several owners had travelled a good distance to support us, and it was great to see Mick and Tom in attendance as they have not been for a while and Martyn arrived in his classic MG BGT, so big thanks to them and everyone who came over the weekend and made it a success, next one is on Saturday and Sunday 17th and 18th September and hope to see more cars there with more jobs to be done.

I will be bringing a few bits with me,
PPD walnut dash, walnut steering wheel with cruise switches, both in good condition.
I think £20 for the dash, £50 for the steering wheel,(or more if you feel generous) proceeds to go in Rob's tin to help funds.
See you soon. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0686c28a89.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4407ae5efd.jpg

Hi Phil.
It's not ready to move home just yet :D but it is only one day away from the next meet this Saturday * Sunday.

All are welcome hopefully a few of you will come and join us, usual FOC stuff along with a few fans, gold resistors, manifolds, so if you have any worries about your car this could be your last chance this year to get help with it. ;)

trebor 16th September 2022 16:35

I have seen Karina today and all good to go for this weekend, please remember that we all have to pay £5 per car whether you are coming for 1 day or 2, which I will collect once you are inside, and I will give you a receipt to pop in your windscreen so I know you have paid and if you return again on Sunday just pop it back in your windscreen as evidence that you have already paid, anyone camping can also pay me that at the same time, it is £10 per night, nice local friendly pub just down the road, and Karina will be doing sandwiches for any that want to buy

I am unlikely to be coming in the 75 as I am having some issues with it at the moment which I thought I had fixed today with a new crank sensor but still causing problems

Typhoon190 16th September 2022 19:26

All going well, I'll be there tomorrow. My Dad is hopefully coming as well. Might need your help to get on the Midlands nano forum if possible please Rob, Steve. Been a while since I last logged on. :o

Everthing is for sale... Its just down to price... You ask any Tory...

Was great to be at one of these meets again after so long.

Thanks to Rob and Steve for organising the new venue and keeping these meets going. Great to catch up with you both again.

Thanks also for the help I received today. A kind gentleman added aluminium tape to prevent further wearing on the aircon pipes and I don't believe I thanked him at the time as I was chatting. :o Thank you sir!

Hopefully I helped Dave a little with his car. :}

trebor 17th September 2022 19:12

Hi Chris.
One of each what ? :D

trebor 23rd October 2022 07:21

Nano meet Sunday 23 October - Due to heavy rain , and hardly anyone expected for todays meet we have decided to call the meet off, the ground was waterlogged yesterday and will obviously be even worse today, the heavy rain is expected to continue until at least lunchtime

Arctic 23rd October 2022 07:29

Rain stops play

The last weekend meets of 2022 went ahead yesterday as the weather was kind to us, even so the ground was a little waterlogged once again a decent turn out with quite a few jobs being done.

today Sunday 23rd is different story having spoken to Rob about 08.00am with rain pouring down and the forecast for rain all day we have decided it would be best to cancel todays meet, Rob will still be going to the venue for about 30 minutes around 10.00am to pay the lady for the ground, and will hand about just in case anyone was to turn up, the ground will most certainly be even more waterlogged today, therefore that bring the end of the 2022 meets and we hope to have some more great meets for 2023.

A big thank you for all whom have attended and helped at the meets this year, they can only keep going with your support cheers Arctic.

PS Rob i need to be faster with my typing:D

Typhoon190 23rd October 2022 08:26

Thanks to Rob and Steve for organising yesterday. Good turn out. A fair few jobs got completed which is always good.

Looking forward to next year!

Ben. :}

squire 23rd October 2022 08:59

A disappointing end to the Nano Meet year but a very wise decision. Hopefully no one travelling any distance will set off due to the weather.
The bright side is that although not perfect the Nano meets have a new home and hopefully for a long time, many thanks to all the Nano crew for the work they've done this year .

Here's to next year's meets, although there's still the Social Nights going ahead at the Dog and Partridge ;)

bl52krz 23rd October 2022 22:55

Saturdays Meet was looking like it was going to be a washout, but the sun god came out for us again. Although as has been stated, the ground was a bit water logged, Artic and Trebor managed to get some jobs done. Nice to see some old and new faces for the end of the year. The new venue is shaping up very nicely, and next year hopefully, more will attend, although their was quite a good turnout Saturday. Roll on next March.

trebor 24th October 2022 12:44

https://i.imgur.com/MNYl740h.jpg

Well our last Nano meet of 2022 has come to an end and although we had a good Saturday, weather and attendance wise, we had to call Sunday off as there had been heavy rain overnight which was still coming down early morning and had flooded many roads leading to the venue and there were some cars broken down by the roadside who had been through the floods and the venue itself was waterlogged

So back to Saturday we had a decent turnout of 20 cars and more jobs are now being tackled so we are slowly getting back to some sort of normality for these meets where you will see a hive of activity and can help or just observe and maybe learn something you didnt know before, we are hoping that going forward we will see the return of a T4 to give free health checks to those that want one.

As ever a big thanks to everyone who turned up to this meet and especially the owners who travel a distance to attend, it can easily be taken for granted by those of us who are local but it really is appreciated that people are prepared to spend their time getting to us and their money considering the price of fuel currently

I took my Freelander 1 as had a few jobs to do, replace door lock drivers side, change windscreen scuttle cover and a couple of exterior window seals as mine had badly bubbled with rust as the metal inside the seal had rusted , thanks to John Aston for picking up the scuttle cover and window seals and bringing them to the meet for me, and also a big thanks to Les and Ben who helped me with my jobs

I took some pictures on Saturday which are on the pictures thread on the Nano forum for October, please take a look and if you have any of your own please post them on there

We have now had 3 Nano Meets at our new venue and have settled in quite nicely, we like the venue and they seem to like us , plus all the people who have attended have not mInded paying the £5 fee which is all passed onto the proprietors in exchange for using the venue

Now that we have a settled venue we can plan next years dates for the whole 12 months and will publish them early in the new year , with the 1st one likley to be in March 23, in the meantime thanks again to everyone who attended our Nano Meets in 2022, I hope you all have a nice Xmas and New Year and we will return in 2023 !

Southern Star 3rd December 2022 16:59

I haven't been to one of these meets but hope to be able to attend at least the first one in 2023 to meet some 75 owners. 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of buying my 75 (and before that, for eight years I had a Rover Sterling).

So I'll be looking out for dates etc.
