new owner of rover 75
I have just bought a 2001 75 diesel auto and love it but am hearing horror stories about not finding parts and head gaskets going have I made a mistake.
|
In a word no.
All parts are available and the diesel is the virtually bullet proof BMW M47 engine. HGF issues are limited to the 1.8 K series petrol engine. On very rare occasions the V6 may also suffer from HGF Excuse my manners, welcome to the club. Do a search on Plenum as the drains can clog and should be cleared periodically. |

You most definitely have not made a mistake - unless previous owners have totally disregarded any servicing whatsoever. However, that's unlikely!:D As GG says, check the plenum drains for blockages. Also, check the boot for water ingress - this can normally be easily rectified with a little detective work and a tube of silicone sealant;). Do some searches for anything that worries you. You are almost guaranteed to get a solution or at least be pointed in the right direction. |
Certain items can be difficult to source, but there's a ready supply of used parts available. Unless you want a Tourer rear window, you'll be ok.
The BMW M47 engine is quite bullet proof and quite tunable. |

Hi and :welcome:
You've got yourself a fantastic car there.... enjoy. The Plenum drains are located in the engine bay near the bulkhead, they remove the water that's run off of the windscreen from flooding your ECU (top design placement!) they often get stuffed full of dirt which prevents the water from draining away. the link to the how to is: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/index.php?thepage=howto But i think you may need to subscribe to access it.... its the best £3 you'll ever spend and it gives you many other benefits too! |
welcome mate....enjoy the rover 75...

wecome to the club. you have got yourself a great car enjoy.
this is what you could find in the plenum.( I did) not hard to clean out. where about are you. as you may have some neer that can show you. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...t=plenum+drain |
I wouldn't worry about part avaliability. The engine is made by BMW so thats fine for parts and the car has many suppliers of parts including
Rimmer Brothers X-Part SMC (On this very site) Plus hundreds of ex dealers and breakers. The only sort of hting you may have issue with is large major parts like wings and event then I bet Rimmers or Xpart would have it. If not you may have to resort to a reconditioned bit but for general mechanical maintenance all parts are freely avaliable. The real rare things are Walnut steering wheels and stuff like that and they were optional extras. Welcome to a great driving experiance and club. |
