GB plates = Good Bye
 

It looks like that after the 28th September 2021, if you want to go abroad, we will have to display a 'UK' sticker, or badge, as the good old GB one will not be allowed.

The GB badge has been an internationally recognised for 111 years.

Strange, I ordered a rear plate for a trailer last week and I was not offered UK as a badging option !

Also looks like I need to order a new rear plate for the 75 as the GB plate with union flag I bought after Brexit is now redundant.

How long ago did the plate manufacturers know about this ?

This change I believe was requested by non-jobbers within the tory party, someone by the name of Shapps being the chief among them. Definitely not driven by the EU or the UN. :shrug:

On ebay are stick on UK, and GB, badges. These go on top of whatever you currently have, on your existing number plate.

I've just looked at a couple, at £1.50 odd.

I don't think people realise the significance of it.

Here in Northern Ireland your car will be burned out if you have a GB sticker on it in the wrong area. I've been chased out of areas for having a UK mainland plate when I was younger and not a Northern Ireland plate.

Plenty even put IRL badges on their Northern Ireland cars and are then incorrectly insured for accidents that occur. It's even worse, the absolute extreme will even bring an OPEL into Northern Ireland, import it, and drive it just to prove their loyalty lies outside of the UK.

Plenty of local owners will confirm this. I previously travelled on a NI badge, which during my travel was ratified by the EU as unacceptable mid 2015 ish mid journey so I had to try and find a GB badge in France of all places for my insurance!

Having a single UK badge is a big thing, and frankly it will solve a lot of issues here, especially with those who will be legally required to have one.

The most you folks have to worry about is a bit of English / Scottish banter. It's massively different for us here

Interesting. Any particular reason for Opel as opposed to any other non-GB manufacturer? I am aware of Opel's German connection and courtesy of a spell of employment in the Wirral/Dee area I'm also aware that the GB hatred you refer to extended to support of the NAZI's during WW2 - not least after I was told that lights were left on and blazing by some in Ireland to aid the Luftwaffe during the blackouts.

Regards Scotland, both England and Ireland do have something in common here. Both have been invaded by Scotland and whereas Ireland gave them a "naughty word", nay not a "naughty word" but a very "naughty word" for their trouble, England had a very lucky escape. An uncomfortable truth for those who like to hate all things GB. :eek:

Opel are Vauxhall aren't they ??

I thinkyou meant 'Vauxhall is Opel', it's all now irrelavent anyway since they were both GM (apparently according to one learned historian I've just read) GM was a German company (so who made all them Shermans during the war) and now - I'm really not sure but what's left of Vauxhall in the UK is now Stellantis which until recently was PSA (earlier itteration was Peugeot Citroen) and......:duh:
