Dear oh dear Ian, that looks to be a complete shed, and have you taken a look at the MOT history

Advisories the same year after year, and only two owners, the second owner appears to be some sort of tight fisted individual with scant idea of how to maintain a car.

Ideally suited to a DIY minded Rover enthusiast, more like ideally suited to Harry Pringle :getmecoat:

I wouldn't be paid to take that I'm afraid

No never looked at the history nor have any wish to Brian..
Having owned one (for 2 weeks) in the distant past nothing could induce me to buy this or any other SD1.. In my opinion the SD1 was BL at it's worse..
However I know that some members own or aspire to own a SD1 hence the link.

sewerman 19th June 2020 17:41

Well atleast its been MOTd think what would it be like if the owner didnt have to

I'd have it tomorrow if it were local, nothing that scary: most consumables -tyres, exhaust, ball joints and rubber gators. Got most of the parts already, even got a complete Vitesse interior in cloth, shame about the leather though. Junk the carbs for a EFI system and send Simon the FASD. Rare A/C too, not many of those.

What is encouraging is the lack of advisories about rust!

I would be proud to own one of these, I think they are fabulous looking cars and even modern by todays standards.Yes they have their undeniable short comings but when you buy one you accept it warts and all.Besides most things can be improved and upgraded.Just like on any other classic car.

Oh and I'd love a V8 P6 too.

marinabrian 19th June 2020 18:28

I bought an SD1 once, it was dreadful in fact the build quality was worse than a Marina and that is saying something.

At least the Vitesse I bought was fitted with the LT77 gearbox and was a twin plenum model, this one has the god awful Borg Warner 65 fitted.......yuk !

I realise a lot of people like them, but they were a poor follow up for the P6, and the Ferrari Daytona rip off styling.........well I don't think the Italians had anything to worry about ;)

I'd be surprised if this 84 had the BM65 box, most by then had the GM180 (82 onwards).
My own SD1 is the twin plenum type, don't think these were ever offered with an autobox, but sadly no A/C.

Well at least that's something Mike, the BW65 is a vile gearbox, the 180 is a better unit, I owned briefly a Vauxhall Senator and it was for a mongbox anyway, acceptable.

I owned a Rover SD1 3.5 Vanden Plas in the late 70s. Was t-boned by a cowboy coming out of a side road and written off. Was a lovely car. Only ever bought tyres for it in the 9years, I think, I owned it. Great continent cruiser. Also owned a 2600 SD1, not as good as the 3.5 tho.
