Help ! Fuel filter - orange clip not needed ?
 

Do all fuel filters look the same ? I finally got round to removing the fuel filter under the back seat to fit the famous orange clip , only to find it doesn't look at all like the pictures i have seen posted ! It certainly doesnt have anywhere to fit the clip . see picture ...
Now , either it has already fallen apart , (but i cant see any sign of the other half and it couldn't have got past the hoses at the bottom ) and the car is still running happily , or it is a different type which doe not come unscrewed ?
It has a part no. WGS100031 on the top .
My car is a 51 reg 2litre kv6 . Any help please -
I was unable to fully remove the filter from the tank , try as I might , because of the pipes attached to the bottom ; it was also a pig of a job to get the locking ring refastened , but the car is running again !!

May sound silly question. But here goes. Is that on the Passenger side or the Driver side?
The fuel filter that comes apart is located on the passenger side. The driver side is the fuel pump.
One other member had the same issue as you, just trying to clarify the point.
If yours is indeed on the passenger side then we need to clear this difference up for other members.

Definitely on the passenger side !
Also , heres a tip - DONT do thiswith a full tank !. But , petrol does clean the drive very well .....................

Experts will not undertake this job if the tank is more than half full.

Right, we will have to wait until one of our technical experts comes on later on to clear this one up. Lates or Rincewind.
If your fuel filter (the ones we know and love) had parted your car would not run. It may be that an updated version was fitted to some cars to bypass the problem.
I'll PM Lates and point him at this thread, thanks for the part number that will be most helpful.

THat is indeed different to mine, but what I was expecting to see !
Looking at my copy of RAVE , p 19.2.31 Fuel Filter appears to show my version ....................the Haynes manual shows the other version !

Right gents, thanks to GG for a wake up call. I have been onto the dealers to attempt to unravel the magical fuel filter mystery.

WGS100031 is the older type and is NLA and supercedes to

WGS100032 which then goes over to WGS100072.

To be 100% sure the vin number would be needed to clarify the correct part numbers. The WGS100072 retails @ £64.50 + vat for reference.

This make sense gents ?

for the record, my vin is RJZLKDD2395 first reg Sept 01 . Does the changing part numbers therefore suggest that the earlier filters do not unscrew ( mine appears to have 3 legs that clip together to join top and bottom ) ? Anyone fitted an orange clip to an early model ?

Hiya Chris can you double check your vin number please, it should look like :
SARRJZLLM1D210*** . The 1D is the important bit on the vin number I have used for the example.

Okay ,quoted the no. from the handbook and it turns out to be written wrongly ! Correct no. is RJZLKD1D213195 ..........
