Now the sunroof..

Took car to garage
quoted £20 To clean sunroof drains.. but sunroof will not open!! So taking it home to check fuse... was told by seller switch was dodgy.. worried now if can get open might not get it closed!! So will book into garage to sort out....well auto electrician...

There is a way you can close it manually if the electrics fail, I’d be worried about a £20 quote to clean the drains, sounds like they will just put a wire or an airline down them for that price, to clean and seal all four sunroof drains you are looking at least a 3 hour job (and that’s if you have done them before!)

Hi,
If and I mean if the motor is okay you will be able to open the s/roof with an allen key placed in the g/box of the s/roof motor. Chances are the motor has burnt out and it will be difficult to turn the allen key. I made a dummy g/box without the motor to enable the roof to open and close when I had trouble with mine a while ago.Does your sun shade open and close okay?

I not the best of mechanically knowledged people, if I do it and mess it up then I got myself to blame.... if I get garage to do it and they mess it up I can take it back...... Going to find out where the fuse be, and check that myself though.....

If the sunshade doesn't run smoothly back and forth then one3 or more of the clips has snapped off jamming the sunroof therefore it could have burnt the motor out, any way as said you can wind the sun roof with an allen key.

Hi Mike,
It sounds like your guides are worn on the s/shade. I see you are not too far from me, do you ever head towards Merseyside/St Helens? If you do I could check it out for you as I have had trouble with mine in the past and have learnt a bit about these s/roofs! First thing would be to get the s/shade off then see about the motor then maybe fit my "special tool" to open close the roof.

Not down that way much, perhaps we could meet up one day, and sort it out I am busy all over weekend maybe next week sometime....
I just want to get drains cleaned to stop the leaking, and I do not intend to use the sunroof once I get everything sorted..........

Busy this w/end myself, probably free on Tuesday.
