More help required No Cd player??
Hi having just returned to the Forum I'm being forced to post a few questions for which I apologise, but with this one, if I cant find an answer my missus will do her nut!!
My "new" buy a 2003 2.0 CDTI tourer,is great in some respects but in other areas, compared to past models I've owned, seems to be lacking. In this case it appears it doesn't have a CD player!!! It is fitted with Symphony radio, with buttons clearly marked CD/Tape.....the tape player is in position but no CD player,,,,can I fit a glove box cassette version, and if so how do I connect to back of radio...is It a dockyard job? Is there a socket in place to accept a CD input plug on the back of the radio, is the back of the radio readily accessible? Thanks again..:o |

The cd changer isn't in a side cubby in the boot is it? Does anything change on the display when you press the cd button? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As I understand it ,the symphony radio is only held in with a piece of trim and four screws, I have the removal tools for the radio ,just hope it has the fittings for a CD player!!! Haven't told the wife yet...Chicken! |
Hello Derek if you have not already purchased the cd player from e-bay i have one fitted in my tourer that i no longer use and you can have it if you wish free of charge.

When you remove the Symphony, see if there are cables in a blue mini ISO connector (along with a green and yellow one) plugged in the back. That is the connector for the CD changer, if it is there, the other end must be somewhere..... usually under the glove box.

However on looking all over my glove box I can not find any cables or access holes to rear of radio unit, so on removal of old, do I just drill a hole through the glove box bulkhead etc to attach cables to compatible unit? |

Not easier to just replace with a modern stereo that has CD/USB etc? that way you dont loose your glove box space.

So for time being I'll keep the old 75 in its original condition, then when I have to ,upgrade and also use my Iplayer. All the best Derek |

I will hijack this thread as it is relevent to the issue I am having.
I have sourced a changer but realised I didn't have the correct lead. I have now bought a full set of head unit, loom and changer. I have tried the blue plug of the new loom from the radio to the changer. The changer goes through the CD cassette, so is connected, but when I press the CD/tape button on the head unit all I get is 'no tape' on the display. I have tried both head units & both changers with the same issue. i have now unbolted the BCU to gain access to what I thought would be the plug on the current car loom but there doesn't appear to be one. It appears that the stereo loom is part of a bigger one. I wonder if there is a signal via either the green or yellow plugs that isn't being sent to tell the head unit that a changer is present. I am running out of ideas now. I have two changers, a loom and 2 head units and still no CD. Argh. Help please |

If you are fitting an after market head unit, all plugs etc should be included to enable you to marry up with Rover 75 loom. There are a lot of them, but the one thing they will NOT do is activate the original Rover 75 CD changer, most like mine are single disc load? Plus ensure you have chosen correct main socket/plug to connect to Rover loom? hope this helps |
Thanks for your quick reply.
You have spurred me on and I think I have fixed it. I have undone all of the loom tape on the loom I was supplied and determined that the bulk of the wires from the blue plug do go directly to the CD changer bar a couple of thin red and white with yellow flashes wires, that are joined in a bridging block and then go to a thick wire of the same colour that joins the main loom. I went out to the car and found the same thick red, white and yellow flash wire and found that as part of previous bodging, it has a bullet connector on the end. I made up a temporary bridging wire and plugged it all in and voila I have a CD player. Just soldering the two thin wires together now and will then put them into a bullet and try it again before hopefully putting the car all back together again. |
Hi Richard Glad it all worked out,and that I didn't get my wires crossed!!!!

If you turn up to the Poole meet this weekend, I will remove and regrease the CD mechanism. |
HI Mark As you know Cd players I wonder if you could give me some advice on an annoying problem which arose earlier in the year. I purchased one the BMW 46 Octacore
head units which were being offered on this forum. When I inserted my first CD it played but never came out again!! No amount of fiddling will bring it to the service. The two main players "Andy" (that proved not to be his name , the same went for his place of residence Canada was false)Equally Rob the UK technician is very hard to pin down so that back up is virtually nil! So I wonder if you could advise on accessing the player or removing the CD? |
