Must be getting old

Took my 2004 mk 1 260 for a full service yesterday with one of specialist chaps who did a comprehensive job. Then to my usual garage for its MOT which it passed with no advisories.

Two issues:

I had forgotten that the car had an oil and filter service at the end of May when a new brake caliper was fitted - no wonder the old oil when drained looked new - it was!

Secondly my car was due an MOT in 31/08/20 and i thought as it was 31/07/20 i would get the extra month - wrong! Apparently, it is 28 days in advance.

Won't make these errors again!

I think it's a calendar month, not 28 days .

From the .gov website:

".....You can get an MOT up to a month (my highlighting) (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.

Example If your MOT runs out on 15 May, the earliest you can get an MOT to keep the same renewal date for next year is 16 April. (so plus one day, 15th to 16th, minus one month May to April - so on or after 16 April -IMHO)

You can get an MOT earlier, but the renewal date for the following year will change to one year (minus a day) from the date the vehicle last passed its MOT.

Example Your MOT is due to run out on 15 May, so the earliest you can get it done is 16 April. However, you take your vehicle for its MOT on 14 April and it passes. This means that the MOT expiry date changes to 13 April the following year....."

The legislation refers to "months" not weeks.

So, in your case:

Taken for MoT 31/07/20.

MoT expires 31/08/20

Plus one day is 01/09/20

Minus one month is 01/08/20.

So, sadly, after all that, it doesn't make any difference whether it's months or weeks, it looks like you took her 1 day too early
