I got a wet trunk/boot
 

Hi guys,

I dont use my trunk that often but today i noticed that somehow water got in my trunk. Its only on the sides. (see picture)

Does anybody know what can cause this? And how i can sort this?

I had one similar , to find it fold the seats down and climb in the car with a torch shining in the boot , get someone with a hose outside the car to spray water over the boot and you should find where it's coming in .

As its both sides could be the boot seal but first place to look is the light seals

Yes, almost sure that the culprit is the rear light seals!
Easy fix!

extract from my post -

So I sealed the underside of the 8 bottom screen clips from inside the boot (2 are not very easy to get to grrr ) Still water in the boot.

So I sealed around the air extractor vents on both sides, Still water in the boot

So I sealed the boot hinges and looked for any small panel gaps and sealed them, still water in the boot!!!!

So today in a fit of rage, pulled all the boot carpet and trim out and started to mop out the water from today’s rain, only to spot a small trail of water I had not seen before, and managed to trace it to the first push in clip of the side body trim, Out came the silicone and did the 2 push clips, removed the other 2 nuts and plastic washer dab of silicone behind the washer and back on with the nuts, did both sides, So fingers crossed this is going to fix it.

So infact there are lots of places water can come in, it all depends if you have a wet carpet from underneath or the water is dripping from higher up onto the top of the carpet.

But as its both sides could be lights or side trim clips.

Like the guys say, it could be any of those places. But, next time it’s raining, put your finger into the holes at the very top of the boot (difficult without a photo, but between the main boot hinges) and see if you can feel any wet.

That’s where mine comes through, from worn-out seals on the screen trim mounting clips. I’m waiting for some nice weather to take the rear screen seal and clips out and fix according to Rich17865’s excellent guide…

PS and my wet bits are the same place as yours... but it could still be the light clusters (not with me, I've already done mine) or the trim etc.

Unless it has the 'MG6' rear lamps. I've found mine almost impossible to seal no matter how I try! I've used the new gaskets, extra thick gaskets and they still leak. Next experiment is butyl mastic.

Try the trim which runs around rear window seal the studs that hold it in that was cause of my wet boot after i have sealed boot clips
