JLR to be sold to the PSA group?

Just been reading Jaguar Landrover will be sold to the PSA group. I seen more mergers/take overs of the big car manufacturers soon as all of them are in line for major fines before 2021. The cost of R&D to develop/transition to BEV's would be enormous for one company alone. PSA were in talks to buy FCA (Fiat Chrysler automobiles) just recently but (FCA) have just done a deal with Tesla and reached a deal to pool their fleet together in Europe for the purpose of the latter avoiding emission requirement fines to the tune of $2billion for emission credits. This shows the sort of fines these car manufacturers are facing by 2021. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/new...table-16254633

As indeed have all diesel powered JLR (and Ford) cars.

Anyone might think that the industry grand plan (or maybe the accountant's grand plan) is to have just one "manufacturer" so it doesn't matter what make/model/type of car you buy......the money goes to the same place.

Andy.

Yes It looks like it's coming to that, VW has said it will sell it's new M.E.B skateboard platform to any car manufacturer who wants to put their metalwork on it and are willing to build their cars for them also.

These mergers are an exercise in joining forces to whoever has the lowest fleet emissions to lessen the fines.

Edit: Forgot to mention prior to the PSA group wanting to buy JLR, JLR were interested in buying Addison Lee a London based taxi business for $350million to buy into the future plans of mobility.

Doesn't make good reading for future private car ownership. https://www.wintonsworld.com/cool-re...-new-mobility/

No JLR cars have PSA engines... the Freelander 2 and Evoque have Ford Duratech engines made by Ford

Don't confuse who makes an engine with its design origin.

Read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratorq_engine

Then recognoise that the no should be a yes!

Honda is now closing it's Swindon plant.

It would surprise me in a few more years that there are less major car makers around the world, the cost of developing new cars is only going to get more expensive and this will make developing new models unaffordable so the smaller and less profitable manufacturers will fade away.
