Abs fault.. I need help!!
 

Hi guys, I failed the MOT because of a Anti-lock braking system warning lamp indicates an ABS fault (1.6 (b). My mechanic told me after various checks that I need to repair the ABS ECU system and it will cost £400 +installation but as I know that sometime mechanics try to increase the problems for MOT and take more monay... I would be happy if someone suggest me or another good mechanic in Essex.. Or give me some advise. Thanks

I can have a look with T4 of you fancy a 2hr trip North!

That's the way to go, Rather than a hit and miss diagnosis...Just wish I had had access to a T4; when I had the same problem.;)

I expect it's already been done but check closely for a broken sensor wire and of course try fitting a replacement sensor.

Matt; the help you need is already documented on this forum. Search for ABS faults and you'll discover that the most common cause is the sensor lead in a front wheelarch popping out of its retaining clip and touching the tyre when the steering is on full lock. This can be diagnosed by simple observation.

A rear sensor can fail to give a valid signal due to migrating rust particles from the back of the hub (member Arctic has described this with his usual excellent photographs).

Hi Matt,

I use Kevin at MG Rover Repair in wickford. He just replaced the front nearside abs sensor for me on my dads 75 as that was causing an abs fault. He also sorted the front offside abs sensor on my zt a couple years back. He has a t4 so can diagnose it accurately.

Or pop round to see me in corringham (near basildon) and i'll check the fault code on toaf for you.

I used Kevin.. Amazing mechanic! Changed the entire ABS ECU in less than 1hr after diagnose With T4.. Job done and spent only £80 for it!!
