Snow chains will be the last thing to worry about, what are the temperatures likely to be during the journey, need to be concerned with all fluids, tyre pressures a working heater etc etc etc, seek advice from an expert.

PS I assume you mean the Arctic Circle as in North Circle?

Snow chains are used just to get you moving when stuck on ice/snow or to be able to climb up that snowy hill. Chains are not used to drive distances. Put your money in proper winter tires as we do here in Norway. The 15 inch wheels works best for this. I have used snow chains once to be able to climb up some step hills on fresh snow:

Obviously get the correct size for wheel,,install them a few times to get used to putting them on.and take some photos of the installation. There would be nothing worse than being at the roadside,in the dark,in a blizzard, not knowing how they fit.
I have only used mine once, worked well though.
I usually have snow tyres for winter, but last year bought the Michelin cross climates, yet to find some snow ,,good tyres though.
Ken.

Has anyone used snow socks?

Would "studded" tyres be legal where you propose to go?

I was in Moscow a couple of years ago and everyone was running studded tyres - you could hear them coming from a long way off with the noise the studs made on the road.
