So... ABS (again 🙄)

Hi there. I have recently had some work done on the Raptor. The front offside ABS light came on and the speedo stopped working. It turned out that the wire had chafed from the sensor. The garage found the hub was damaged as well as the sensor. They replaced both, but the warning stayed on. The speedo is working (though not properly).
When setting off, the light is on but after light pressure on the pedal the light goes off, then when I press the pedal again, there is a grinding feel from the pedal and the warning comes on again.
I am inclined to think that there is some debris in the socket where the sensor is located which is causing the intermittent signal/lack of signal. If anyone has any advice (or links to the appropriate thread) I will, as always, be very grateful. Thank you in advance 👍

Quick bump, mainly because I really need your help and advice, and I am very worried about the Raptor at the moment. Please folks!

Can you check everything is as it should be, the grinding sounds like something’s isn’t right. Is it like ABS activating that pulsing through the pedal feeling or more like a constant roughness as if the brakes maybe have something trapped in them type thing?
I would be inclined to strip and check the brakes first due to that grinding

Hi Dale,

This recent post shows you how to check that the ABS sensor is receiving the correct pulses. The grinding feel sounds like the ABS activating.

By the way, the reason that the original sensor cable was damaged is that it pops out of its bracket on the suspension and touches the tyre when you're turning at or near full lock. You'll need to tie-wrap it securely to the bracket otherwise it will happen again.

Take it back to repairer

HI Dale.
personally i would not touch the car yourself or let anyone else touch it, not until you have sent it back to whom ever did the job replacing the sensor & bearing/or have they just swapped out the hub for another one off a scrap car ? ask them what they did.

That's great advice Arctic. I will do exactly that!

All sensible advice from They Who Know Infinitely More Than I. But… I had exactly the same thing. Got the front o/s sensor replaced, which fixed the speedo etc, but I then got what you seem to be describing, sort of grinding brake pedal – left it in to my local expert, and it was the reluctor ring on the REAR N/S wheel. All sorted now.

Weird or what… either coincidence that both problems should occur more or less simultaneously, or there’s some sort of circuitous alchemy which causes this. A bit like the brake lights coming on ½-strength when a tail light fails

Do a search on threads by me and you'll find it...

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I searched and found your posts regarding my problem. The symptoms sound remarkably similar!
She's been back to the garage today and my mechanic confessed that he doesn't know what is causing it. He says he is going to ring round on Tuesday and get back to me...
I was thinking (as a sort of belt and braces measure) of removing the battery box and checking the connections under it for the ABS thingy. In another thread it was described as if corrosion was found, that could cause erroneous signals to the ecu.
However, having read your thread, I am going to recommend my mechanic look at the rear sensors and the hub!
She had new rear back plates about 18 months ago, but clod of earth's law being what it is, I'm not going to count my chickens lol.
I will try to keep this thread up to date. You never know, it might come in handy for other members!

Definitely

Difficult to diagnose without some method of measuring pulses ffrom the reluctors, I reckon, unless they're REALLY fubarred.

But our local MGR man has some kind of oscilloscope thing which makes it easy. Think Arctic said this club has a couple to loan out to paid members...
