CDTI intercooler O Rings/Air Filter

Evening all.

Had my car breathed on by one of the forum genuises and he let me know it's smoking as O Rings in t'intercooler are shot.

Not a worry, baught some.
Now then, stupid question as I can't remember the advice.

Is there an O ring at each end of the intercooler pipe or just the top end?

Also I've gathered the oil and filters to service it. The air filter has come with what I can only describe as a foam jacket on it. Does this stay or go??

All the best people.

The o rings fit onto the pipe where it pushes into the top on the intercooler.

The air filter goes in as it comes, complete with the windsock lol

Ok so both rings slot presumabely into grooves, at one end of the pipe (at the top). Cheers.

Aye the "wind sock" threw me lol

yes, they fit into grooves on the section of pipe that pushes down into the top of the intercooler. If you look at the old postings below, there is a good photo of the hard plastic pipe that pushes down into the top of the intercooler. One ring fits into the slot, and one pushes onto the end of the pipe, there is a spacer moulded into the hard pipe to keep the rings apart. Notice there mounting piece moulded into the pipe, remember to remove the nut that holds the pipe to the car. Some say it can be done without removing the front bumper, but I removed mine so that I could see what I was doing, plus I was fitting a gold fan resistor anyway.

these old postings may help

Hi Robert these links may help with the work you are about to carry out, the O-rings are lot easier if the bumper is off the car mind, good luck Arctic
