TOAF & Interface cables

As I understand it, TOAF plugs into the OBD port by the steering wheel.
The ODB connector is 16 ways.

What pins are used by TOAF ?

There are many types of ODB cables on eBay:

ELM327 to USB.
ODB to WiFi.
ODB to Bluetooth.
ODB to RS232 + MAX232.
BMW 1.4.0 Scanner to USB.
Et al.

While I vaguely understand the differences, which one's work and what do they have that makes them suitable?

The TOAF website appears to be written in PoChingLish and is unclear.

That is an excellent price, I will order one now.

I see no mention of TOAF, Rover 75, MZTT or T4

So how do you know it works with TOAF?
Is there some secret society of TOAFiosi that I have not heard about.

As an engineer, my questions still stand.
I note from http://www.hardwarebook.info/ODB-II that pin 8 is undefined.

Pin 8 goes to the ABS ECU and then onward to the instrument pack, pin 7 to the SRS DCU, cruise ecu, ECM, and Jatco EAT ECU.

It will work, I've used a cheap KKL lead to play with TOAF, in fact if I could have laid my hand on the lead you could have had it for the price of postage.

I've tried two leads that have been suggested, TOAF fails to connected to either of my 2000/2001 petrol 2.5 ZT's.

I'm amazed that TOAF can't find a single ECU if you're using one of the stated leads and joined pins 7+8 together. Sounds like a Windows issue - I assume you're selecting the correct COM port from within TOAF as these leads appear as USB<>serial interface once the drivers are installed, which means they'll add another COM port number in device manager.

Well, just modded my bluetooth elm327 clone on pins 7-8 and it don't work, but not going to give up, will order the plug in the link above and see what happens when I use that one instead.

To MarinaBrian & Simondhopkins :
Thanks for the advice. I have ordered 2 of your recommended cables & will post here with the results of my testing with TOAF.

Wow!!

My vagcom cable turned up this morning, did the solder 7-8 pin mod, installed the drivers that came with the vagcom NOT the ones on toaf website as they don't work with it, plugged it in, started toaf in administrator mode, it saw the com port (my case com3 as had 2 other with bluetooth) hit connect and boom it worked... And oh my god where there some errors on the ecu, bcu, lcm, srs, abs, but these were mainly due to work that I knew had to be done in the past when it was the father in laws car. Now only error I have is drivers airbag wheel resistance too hig (so new clock spring ordered first ) .

And now I have once touch windows all round, 30% drl, follow me home lights, open all windows on key unlock (pity wont work on fob like my old focus did but still better than club spec) you can access everything on this software.

But please for the love of god every time you click a new module, hit backup fist and store it safe.

What a great piece of software and my bro in laws dad has a saloon 75 so can see if he wants any mods.

Next up, try and find a map to upload to make its a 160 ( saw in options xpower ps135 / ps160) but im guessing thats just a marker and not an actual map)
