Rover 75 Fan has come off
I think I might have found the problem to my overheating...
On taking the front grill off the main fan blade has come of the spindle..the fan motor is working and turning around but obviously the fan blade is not on it. Question::: How is it fixed on is it bolted with a nut ??? any suggestions how I can get it put on. Any photos would be appreciated Thanks Bill |
It is actually a push-on fit then twist to secure ! There are three retaining lugs in the plastic hub . Have a look at this old thread for info ....

Mine came off because the 'starlock' washer was missing. if that's the type of fitting you have you may find it just below the fan.

Yes take the front bumper off, then remove the crash bar this will give you full free access to fit the blades back on, you will also need a thin walled 15mm socket on a small extension bar to to hold the main nut after you have offered up the fan blade, this is so you can turn the nut one way while you turn the blades the opposite way. Once fitted back into place drill two 3mm holes in the right place, then add two self tapping screws to hold the blades on for the future. https://i.imgur.com/sYJ1049l.jpg1 https://i.imgur.com/vzuirDNl.jpg2 https://i.imgur.com/ZRqeM36l.jpg3 At the same time do the demist test to make sure the fan is working on the slow speed, and check if it a three speed fan or a tow speed fan with silver or gold resistor. Bill hopefully you will know how to remove the bumper ? if not let us know and we can pop up some photos for you, same with the crash bar. https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...91&postcount=6 |

Hi Guys I have now got the whole of the front of the car off. and can now get at the blade...its come of from the spindle...
I like the idea of putting self tappers to secure it but not sure how to do this...is it best to put the fan blade on then drill the holes through the plastic into the metal then insert the screws...maybe 2 holes so what is the correct procedure dill the holes then put the blade on or as said locate the blade turn and lock it then drill the holes through the plastic into the metal. failing that if I can turn onto the spindle should I apply a little of gorilla glue to help to secure Please advise Thanks Bill |

Hi Bill fit the blades to the to the spindle use a thin wall 15mm socket to aid you locking the blades in position https://i.imgur.com/nBIZpOwl.jpg1 Then drill through the slots into the metal 2mm or 3mm hole then add self tapping screws to secure the blades ;) https://i.imgur.com/9bcSEzgl.jpg2 |
