Just a quick question. To swap standard front lights to xenon, is it just Pug and Play??

Yes they work plug and play.

Yes Jon, but if you want to change the bulbs, do it before you fit them. Bit of a faff 😎

PUG and play ???---;)

Don't forget to factor in the time required to fit them and the need to have them optically re-set.-----:D

Can someone explain the difference between xenon and the other ones that look similar (projector?) please. Are the xenons brighter? Which are the ones with a darker look lenses?

The various headlights that were offered on mki models and mkii models were the following:

MKi prefacelift models:

1. halogen reflector headlamps. These are the ones with the frosted lenses which you can't really see through and use halogen bulbs. The rover 75 ones had chrome inserts and the MG ZT ones had black inserts. These are the worst performing headlights out of the options offered and were only available on the mki models.

2. halogen projectors. These are the ones with clear lenses that you can see through and have the projector lens in each headlight for the dipped beams. These also use halogen bulbs, but perform better than the halogen reflector headlamps above. All of the halogen projectors have black headlight inserts.

3. Xenon projectors. These look identical to the halogen projectors above at first look, however the xenon projectors use D2S Xenon burners for the dipped beam projectors and can be identified by the metal ballast on the back of the headlight casing and also "xenon technology" written on the black headlight inserts (only very early xenon headlights didn't have "xenon technology" on the lenses. These are the best performing headlight option available from factory.

mkii facelift models.

Only 2 headlight options were available for the mkii models, halogen projectors and xenon projectors. The headlights themselves are identical to the mki halogen projectors and xenon projectors above, with the only difference being the lenses fitted to them.

The halogen projectors fitted to Rover 75's had grey inserts, and the halogen projectors fitted to MG ZT's had black inserts.

All xenon projectors had black inserts and as above state "xenon technology" on the lenses.

Which ever headlights you have, ensuring your lenses are very clean helps to get the best out of them. If your lenses are very frosted up and need a refurb, this significantly reduces the light output from your headlights.
