Volcanic Ash
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but the last bits of rain we have been having where I live, and the left over residue of frost and dew, has been contaminated by what looks like ash when it dries on the car. Noticed it on the windscreen after I had specifically cleaned the windscreen and side windows. Thought it was just a one off with the strong wind we have been having. But no, no wind last night, ( not me) but this morning, windscreen covered in whitish dry spots. When wiped with dry duster, it was like fine bits of potash, not sand. Anyone else had this happen to them?

We have had the Sahara sand rain and now these white spots, and I’m in Cornwall.

My asthma was terrible when I went out the other day. Soon after I got indoors I was fine. The car was also covered in the fine dust, which will scratch if you don't hose it off first!;) Mother nature's payback for stealing her oil and coal!

Our cars in North Dorset were covered in the stuff, but our friends about 10 miles away didn't get any.
I blame the recent warm weather, giving us Southerly winds. Looking at the deposits, I think it was a mixture of volcanic ash and sand, here. I reckon the culprits are Mount Etna and sand storms in the Sahara. Mount Etna's recent activity has discharged some 40 million cubic metres of volcanic material, which is the most in recent years and more than twice of the eruptions in 1981. As Italy is a member of the EU, I think that the EU should take the blame for this. :D:getmecoat: |
Well, my Volvo has been white the last few days, but I put that down to being covered in road salt and they've been gritting due to frost the last couple of days.
I'd only washed it at the weekend so now needs doing again but will investigate whether it is actually salt or not. |
Hi Dave,
It's the same just up the road in Tamworth. Been giving the cars a good wash off then washed again with some diluted cleaner or snow foam to get the stuff off before going anywhere near the paint with a wash mitt. Happy cleaning. ;) |
